We believe that all voices matter & all voices should be heard. We amplify lesser-heard voices in child protection research, practice & policy.

Last week, we published new research, carried out by @ListenUpCo and Missing People, exploring Black children and their families’ lived experiences of going missing. The focus of this research was hearing the voices of children and young people themselves, as well as parents of children who have been missing. Here are just some of their reported experiences. If you have been affected by missing and feel that you need support, our free, confidential Helpline is available by phone or text on 116 000.

A year ago we worked with @ListenUpCo to publish data showing the disproportionate amount of people from Black communities going missing, and disparities in response to Black & Asian missing people.   One year on, read about changes that have been made: misspl.co/P3JA50QS3wf

Many children had experienced adultification, where officers assumed they were older, less innocent or vulnerable than they are. Adultification is founded on discrimination and “explicitly impacts Black children, and influences how they are safeguarded and protected”@jahninedavis
