No coincidence, @pjfoot1859. Proud to have played football alongside Peter Weightman, the father of my current ageless marathon champ @LisaWeightman. Interestingly, Peter and I both went on to coach the Preston Bullants @NBullantsFC in later years, a club with a great tradition.

Teammate of Peter Weightman, JJ Liston winner @DickTelford coaches one of Australia's best ever marathoners @LisaWeightman. A coincidence of names or a 55 year familial link?

Wouldn’t want to be coached by anyone else @DickTelford. We are excited for our next adventure!
When your fit, you're fit...@LisaWeightman rolls out a 2:28 Beijing marathon for 4th, after a last minute (or week anyway) decision to back up after her 2:24 in Berlin 5 weeks before. Sure, super shoes do help, but not bad resilience, eh?

The lookstudy.com.au RCT introduced quality PE bluearth.org into public schools. By grade 6 it had improved the (20%!) prevalence of elevated blood risk factors for CVD and T2D in typical Aussie kids; and NAPLAN scores as well! PE is medicine for body and mind.
There are many randomised trials I love, but one of my favourites is @DickTelford's LOOK study, a randomised trial of quality physical education in Canberra public schools, which is now following participants into adulthood lookstudy.com.au/publication… #canberra #randomistas

The #Tokyo2025 marathon course was unveiled today. The start and finish will be at Japan National Stadium, a reversal of the recent trend to de-couple the marathon from the main stadium. The course includes two 13 km laps in the heart of central Tokyo, including the Ginza.
Congratulations @cameronmyers06 and @DickTelford super proud! Enjoy that shiny silver medal - we are all so happy for you! #teamtelford #resilience #team
🔥 1500m Silver - Cameron Myers 🔥
After a slow start some bold running from Myers taking the lead with 800m to go and drops a 55 sec 3rd lap ... leading into the straight but just gets passed last 10 metres
Fantastic racing for🥈 ... this is the best result ever for Australia in the 1500m event
Also Australia's🇦🇺 12th medal!

That was masterful @karentighe! And what a great contribution you've made to Australian sport.
Karen Tighe was a trailblazer for women in sports media, and it wasn't always easy: here she is in 1993 eloquently shutting down a question about her credibility as a sports broadcaster.
Just perfect. 🤩

Very pleased with my longest coached athlete, 45 yr-old @LisaWeightman today; 3rd in the Osaka Marathon in another Olympic qualifier, 2:24:43. Better be careful not to mix her training up with that of my 17 yr-old Cam Myers (who ran his 2nd 1500 qualifier last Thursday, 3:33:50)!

Happy with my 3 1500 runners Cam Myers (1st in 3:33.20), Jye Edwards (3:34.42), Connor Whiteley (3:36.19) at Bankstown last night. Former world champ Jake Wightman (3:34.31) was impressive early in his Olympic prep as were Aussies Jesse Hunt (3:33.64) and Callum Davies (3:35.14).

Aussie women shine in Valencia marathon: Genevieve Gregson 2:23:08; Isobel Batt-Doyle 2:23:27; Lisa Weightman 2:24:18; Eloise Wellings 2:25:47. And they’re tough. Weightman’s pre-race sore throat/nausea was a worry, but a DNF wasn't an option. She tested COVID positive post-race.

Lisa Weightman is taking remarkable longevity into the world athletics championship women's marathon this afternoon (AEST).
But there was a time when becoming so durable appeared thousands of miles beyond the realms of possibility.
