A retired NASA engineer who had worked on the Space Shuttle program for 25 years was hired by SpaceX at age 62. He described the first week as the most disorienting experience of his professional life. At NASA, a design change required 3 meetings, 2 committees, a review board, and 6 to 18 months of documentation. At SpaceX, his new supervisor said "if it works, build it. If it doesn't, change it by Friday." He sat at his desk after the first day and called his wife. He told her he felt like a man who had been swimming with ankle weights for 25 years and someone just cut them off. He could move. He could decide. He could build something in the morning and test it in the afternoon. The constraint that he had accepted as the nature of aerospace engineering turned out to be the nature of bureaucracy. Within 6 months he had contributed to more design iterations than he had completed in his last 5 years at NASA. Not because he was working harder. Because the time between having an idea and testing the idea collapsed from months to hours. The same brain. The same knowledge. A different operating system. He described a specific moment where he proposed a modification to a Raptor engine component. At NASA, the proposal would have entered a queue. At SpaceX, the modification was machined by the end of the day and tested by the following morning. He watched his idea become a physical object in 18 hours. At NASA, 18 hours would not have been enough to schedule the first meeting to discuss whether to schedule a meeting. He told an interviewer: "I didn't get smarter when I went to SpaceX. I got faster. The intelligence was always there. The system was in the way." The difference between SpaceX and NASA is not talent. NASA has extraordinary talent. The difference is the time between a thought and a test. SpaceX compresses it. NASA elongates it. The same engineer produces 10x more at SpaceX than at NASA because the bottleneck was never the engineer. It was the meetings about the meetings about the work.

After six years in stealth, Atomic Machines is out. Our mission: on-demand, universal command of matter. First beachhead: the Matter Compiler, an AI-native manufacturing system that builds working micro-machines from code alone. No per-product tooling. No process development. Different code, different machine.

©Aston Cross Music 9/11/26 From the viewing points. The waterfall pools fall into infinity by way of a shaft seemingly endless, into and onto the original sites of the Twin Towers, a healing place, a mourning place, a place of honour, bravery, love, and monumental courage, continuous water from above, speaking We’re Still Here, to the fallen to the broken hearts, the unfinished arguments, the spirit of life, and the last good morning kiss, We Are All Here. In deepest regret, to the families, and loved ones, the police officers and firefighters, paramedics, and all who were there, and who are still here now, and for all those still waiting xo Our respects and love, Bill Ward and Family

GPT-6 Astra built this Manhattan world in Unreal Engine over the course of a week. It was literally able to go street by street to make each one perfect.

I was extraordinarily fortunate to have early access to @OpenAI Astra. After what I've seen, I believe we've now reached one of the defining milestones in the age of AI & have clearly crossed the threshold of AGI! Astra left me so profoundly awestruck that I am struggling to explain what I experienced! Hope to share more soon! The stars have aligned. A new AI era has begun. ✨💫

In-context learning for robotics is here. - Long-horizon tasks over 10 minutes long - Never seen during pre-training - Prompted with one video, no fine-tuning We are building intelligence from the foundations up, not from the top down.
Introducing S1, our new foundation model that learns from one example. It can be taught 10-minute long tasks that it has never seen before, from one video prompt without any fine-tuning. Watch S1 operate in real-time via in-context learning:

🚨 SCOOP: OpenAI recently finished its next pretrain, codename "Bel" - the successor to "Doug", which is expected to be the base for Astra and GPT-6 (w/ further RL) Bel is a giant pretrain with >10T total parameters, similar in size to GPT-4.5. OpenAI expect it to be a post-GPT-6 base, and potentially even the base for an AGI-threshold model. All of this has Anthropic concerned. OpenAI believe Anthropic have no good response to Astra prepared for a public launch, and my understanding is that they're correct - mostly as a result of compute constraints, Anthropic are bracing for much of the rest of the year to go OpenAI's way, but think they'll be back on top early next year.
