In the early 1990s, during the making of Windows 3.1, a senior developer named Dave carried a worn teddy bear everywhere he went. The Microsoft team adopted it as their unofficial mascot, stealing it for office “vacations” and sending fake postcards. This was an easter egg dropped off into files of microsoft software in the 1992 after the release of Windows 3.1: The bear lived on inside the OS: a file (created by microsoft) called BEAR.EXE, a hidden credits screen that cycled through Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer, Brad Silverberg, and the bear itself in a yellow jacket.
