Promoting & introducing 'the Link' between animal abuse & its effects in the human domain to its application in global agreements including the United Nations.

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child now calls upon children to be protected from all forms of violence including violence inflicted on animals because of the 'harmful effects' that this can cause to a child. Meanwhile a nation arranges for children to be able to watch the killing by firing squad, of a man in a wheelchair. Is it possible for any nation to sink any lower ? Globules of moral detritis are slithering & stenching along the corridors of a White House in Washington.

For centuries, the dominant human perspective has been anthropocentric : humanity has placed itself at the centre of the moral world, with animals and the natural world too often regarded primarily in terms of their usefulness to human beings. But something is changing. The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, through its General Comment No. 26 (2023) on children’s rights and the environment, has recognised the profound relationship between children's rights, the natural environment and the living world. Significantly, the Committee states that children must be protected from exposure to violence, including violence inflicted on animals. This matters because a child does not necessarily begin life with the artificial divisions that adults have created between human suffering and animal suffering. A child can see another sentient being experiencing pain. A child can recognise fear. A child can recognise joy. A child can see a mother protecting her young, a family remaining together, or an animal struggling to escape violence. The child's response may be one of empathy rather than hierarchy. And that raises a profound question: What happens when a child is forced to witness violence against another sentient being? The United Nations has now placed the protection of children, their development, their health and their relationship with the natural environment firmly within the framework of children's rights. This does not mean that the Convention has legally given animals the same rights as human beings. Nor does it formally declare the end of anthropocentrism. But it represents an important development in the human-rights recognition of the relationship between children, animals and the wider living environment. Perhaps this is where the conversation begins to change: from domination to relationship; from exploitation to responsibility; from seeing animals merely as objects of human use to recognising their sentience and capacity to experience suffering and wellbeing; and from an exclusively anthropocentric worldview towards a more ecocentric and sentience-aware understanding of our place within the living world. The most powerful perspective may be the simplest one: Through the eyes of a child. Before we teach a child that one species matters more than another, perhaps we should ask what the child sees when another sentient being is suffering ? That question belongs not only to animal welfare. It belongs to the future of human rights, children's rights, empathy and our relationship with the living world. @ENOChildren @unicefchief @UNICEF @Act4AnimalsEU @coe @CRINwire @ChrisGPackham @BetsyAmbassador @ALAWAnimalLaw @ENOChildren @domdyer70 @marcthevet @AgnesvonMaravic @R_DeDominicis @UN_EndViolence @GC26_CAT @JaneFallon @DCIsecretariat @JournoJane @SophieKiladze @LadyFreethinker @humaneworldnews @IngridNewkirk @PeterEgan6 @theFOALGroup @XposeTrophyHunt @JaneGoodallUK @MarkRuffalo @NickTaylorLLB @theAliceRoberts @humaneworldnews @Animal_Watch @WrldFed4Animals @ChildRightsCnct

The reality ! Unless celebrities & NGO's begin to 'inform & invite' engagement because of GC26 then we perhaps have travelled a road too far & it's time to leave. We are standing at the edge of history ! A change unimaginable for the protection of the animals of our world. The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child has included the protection of animals in a ‘legally binding ‘ UN Convention meaning that protection of animals is now embraced within international Law and 196 national governments must now ensure that any societal tradition or practice that involves violence against animals must stop. Many hear these words with the response that if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is. THIS IS REAL ! For many the quantum leap from historic animal protection to these new developments exemplifies Vygotsy Zone of Proximal Development where most people can't embrace a concept too far removed from one they already have. But there are some individuals out there who have the 'vision' to utilise, develop & support these new developments. Hear the words of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. GC26 animoto.com/share/mmu0pVq8lK… The greatest opportunity for global animal protection that the world has ever seen. Dismiss & reject and numerous millions of animal lives will have been cast aside ! It is said that those who can only look down to see the ground beneath their feet will never see the golden opportunities which now blaze on the horizon. Please share ! Let's see if we can find those special ones !

Sometimes the most globally impacting changes take place iin the shadows ! We now have such a moment ! With the recognition by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child that a child's natural empathetic connection with a sentient animal can be severely disturbed by exposure to violence against ANY animal, protection of both animal & child are now embraced within the 'legally binding' human rights Constitution of the United Nations. animoto.com/play/h0GMHODkkVB… With this elevation of Animal Rights into the Human Rights domain the Council of Europe must also revisit & begin to challenge nations where protection of homeless animals in accordaance with the CoE Convention 125 on the Protection of Pet Animals, asserted to also be 'legally binding' is being ignored by nations eg Turkey & Azerbaijan. europeanlinkcoalition.com/la… @eurogroupforanimals

A Quantum Leap in the Evolution of Humanity Has Happened in the Shadows ! On 18 September 2023 the United Nations recognising that violence against animals does not exist in isolation but can cause 'harmful effects' to children, elevated Animal Rights into the Human Rights domain for the first time in history. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is 'legally binding' making ANY violence inflicted on ANY animal illegal under international law. Please share widely !

The mighty power of empathy ! This morning in False Bay, South Africa a whale was giving birth & attracted sharks. Hundreds of dolphins then appeared out of nowhere and swam in circles around her keeping the sharks away. They stayed with her until she and her baby were safe and then they escorted them both to safety.

Hidden in the shadows something enormous has changed ! Animal Rights have been elevated into the Human Rights domain for the first time in history by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. Turkey has ratified the 'legally binding UN Convention on the Rights of the Child which requires that under international law children must be protected from experiencing violence inflicted on an animal. But there's more ! Turkey has also ratified the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals. europeanlinkcoalition.com/la… Two 'legally binding' international agreements broken.
