Thought today would be a good day to bump this thread i wrote about the the role the Olympic Games have always played in upholding dominant social hierarchies and fomenting hypernationalism. The sanctity of the Olympic movement is a myth!
Replying to @Lineycantdance
First, you have to understand that the modern Olympic Games, founded by Pierre Baron de Coubertin and first held in 1896, from their inception were a tool for nationalistic fervor. The Olympics were inherently exclusionary, and their early history is inextricable from elitism.

no hate to this poster, but i better not hear anyone ever again say that american skaters can’t be vehicles of patriotism and american soft power just because they’re anti-trump

I love when you read an old book and its like a narrator who finds a manuscript by a guy who’s being told the story by another guy who was only tangentially involved in the plot of the actual novel
One area where I'm seeing the divide between post-milan fans and older fans is how they feel about chris howarth's commentary.
"He's just saying anything!" "He was so rude!"
Let him speak in his silly britishisms and take the tech panel to task! Nothing wrong with that!

tough event... harder watch than last week imo. men menning is whatever in small doses but if its becoming the default of the discipline then i feel that something has gone wrong somewhere structurally. like it has its own verb man. we adjusted language to it.
My personal theory as to why this wasn't such an issue ~10 years ago is because the quad revolution came right on the heels of the chanflation era that forced the men to focus on their PCS and non-jump elements. The further we stray from #chanflation the further we stray from God

ao3 shutdown has me digging through my vaults (old hard drive). Anyway, here are some 2020-21 era fstwt classics
My mom's reactions to Shomarin:
- they're not theatrical enough
- they're not deep enough into their edges
- they're skating too much as individuals (she did NAWT like the incorporation of singles moves)
- too slow
- he had to squat down really deep to pick her up

The latino diaspora discourses break down when you consider the existence of Puerto Ricans. PRs are not immigrants, PR is a US colony and has been so for 128 years. PRs didn't choose to become estadounidenses, almost 2/3rds of the PR population is displaced and living stateside.
latinos refuse to reflect on how their conflation of a geographic category with a "singular" cultural identity that reifies the colonizer's tongue, culture, and institutions is inherently anti-Black and anti-Indigenous. You're doing mestizaje ideology! Slow down, Vasconcelos!
