CERN’s ALPHA experiment trapped antihydrogen for the first time in 2010: 38 atoms, held for 172 milliseconds. By 2011 it could hold them for 1,000 seconds, four orders of magnitude longer. The scale of the difficulty shows in one number: across sixteen separate 1,000-second runs, only seven antiatoms were detected in total.
The long hold matters because it gives the antiatoms time to settle into their ground state, which is what makes precise comparisons between matter and antimatter possible. By 2018 ALPHA estimated the trapped lifetime at no less than 66 hours.

AI neurons run on simple math. Real neurons are far weirder.
A new open dataset fitted 1,000+ PyTorch-ready neuron models to real mouse and human cells. Does brain-like diversity make AI better? It's still an open question, but now it's testable.

DAVINCI proves it can stand the heat 🔥
To prepare for its descent through Venus’ scorching atmosphere, a model of the DAVINCI probe was heated to 869 degrees Fahrenheit (465 degrees Celsius) six different times. It passed every test unscathed.

There are thousands of satellites orbiting Earth.
But finding the one you actually want to understand shouldn’t mean digging through raw catalogues, NORAD IDs and endless search results.
That’s why we built the Orbital Radar Satellite Directory.
Search, browse and explore satellites from across Earth orbit in one place, then jump straight into individual spacecraft pages to see what they are, who operates them, where they are and how they fit into the wider orbital environment.
From communications and Earth observation to navigation, science, military spacecraft and mega-constellations, the directory is designed to make the increasingly crowded space around Earth easier to understand.
