Boks Back In Control, But Wallabies Will Believe The numbers don’t lie — the Springboks have won five of the last six Tests against the Wallabies. The dominance is real, and it has been brutal at times. Scores of 43-12, 33-7 and 30-12 show the gulf between the two sides when South Africa gets it right. The outlier, of course, is Ellis Park in 2025. Leading 22-0, the Boks suffered a complete lapse in concentration to concede 38 unanswered points. It was a collapse that shocked the rugby world and, more dangerously, handed the Wallabies a false sense of improvement. Cape Town seven days later was the reality check — 30-22 to the world champions. But history warns against complacency. Between September 2021 and August 2022, Australia did the unthinkable and beat the Springboks three times in a row on home soil. So what level are these Wallabies really at at the moment, and what will the result be this weekend?

THE RIVALRY HAS FLIPPED! That’s not a streak — that’s an era. In the last 10 Tests between the Boks and All Blacks, it’s 8-2 to South Africa. It started at Twickenham with a brutal 35-7 warm-up win before Paris, then the 12-11 World Cup final that broke New Zealand hearts. Since then, Joburg, Cape Town, Wellington — the Boks have won them tight, won them ugly, and won them by 43. The only two blemishes were Eden Park in 2025 and Ellis Park last month. Every other time, Rassie’s Boks have found a way — absorbing pressure, winning the set-piece, winning the gainline, and closing it out. And now Baltimore, 43-28 in the USA. Written off after Ellis Park, they won three straight and lifted the trophy in America. Dominance asserted.

MORNÉ VAN DEN BERG - UNDERRATED The Lions general. Quickest pass in the URC, lethal box-kick, and he puts his body on the line like a loose forward. 100 games for the Lions. Springbok since 2024. Still unbeaten in 9 Tests in green and gold. Nick Mallett said it this week: “Morné is a very underrated scrumhalf.” Rassie agrees, handing him the 9 jersey for the decider in Baltimore after that calm, composed impact at FNB. Not the loudest name. He’s not the flashy name, but maybe the most important. #Springboks #AllBlacks #Rugby #southafrica

CALLED EARLY. DELIVERED FULLY. It wasn’t in the script. 9 minutes into the second Test at FNB Stadium, Cheslin Kolbe went down injured. Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu shifted to fullback, and the call came early for Manie Libbok. And he delivered. Ice cold off the bench. With Libbok pulling the strings, the Springbok attack finally found its rhythm — stable at set-piece, potent on transition, and ruthless in the wide channels. The backs looked free. The tempo went up. The All Blacks defence had no answers. Arguably the best the Bok attack has looked all series.
