Elizabeth I’s diamond and ruby ring, bearing her initial and taken from her body after her death in 1603, reveals more than meets the eye. A secret compartment opens to display two miniatures of Elizabeth and her mother, Anne Boleyn. The second of Henry VIII’s wives, Anne was executed on May 19, 1536 on charges of incest, adultery, and high treason. The future queen was only two years old at the time of her mother’s death.

The Old English word for equinox is 'emniht', from 'efen' and 'niht', when night and day are evenly balanced. Today is the 'hærfestlice emniht', autumnal equinox; after this (says Byrhtferth of Ramsey) 'langað seo niht and wanað se dæg', 'the night lengthens and the day wanes'.

Yesssssss Natural history GCSE finally gets go-ahead 💚💚💚 Landmark qualification to be made available in schools years after its initial target start date, with content to be decided after a 12-week consultation Students WILL be able to take a new natural history GCSE qualification as part of curriculum reforms, the government has confirmed. It is proposed that natural history GCSE students will spend a minimum of 20 hours learning outdoors, exploring “real habitats, from urban parks to coastal salt marshes”.
