Less fragmentation will be important for better financing opportunities and stronger EU-wide economic structures. Less complex regulation and national gold plating will reduce burdens on the industry.
#2 But more Maastricht is (still) part of the solution: uncertainty and risks are a problem, but more single market will also spur more innovation.
Politicization and more debate on key EU policy decisions both at European and national level need to be part of the answer. Argued also by @hanskundnani. More leadership by governments will be important but not enough.
The EU needs to do both: strengthen its decision-making capacity (output) while not further loosening the link to citizens (input). Delors recognised this challenge.
#1 Jacques Delors stands for more than Maastricht: his focus on social dialogue & cohesion, his call for “giving Europe a sole”, and his emphasis on the “Community method” help addressing the “bottleneck” and “blind spot” of the Draghi report.
