NEW PUB from me: Cliff or bridge: breaking up with the paediatric healthcare system.
I share three types of break-ups we experienced: the 'dear john' letter, 'it's not you, it' me', and ghosting.
And also the way it should be: the handover

Some kids should not be transitioned - the most vulnerable are “pushed off the cliff” because adult providers don’t know how to care for these youth. They deserve better! @SickKidsNews @ronald_cohn @JILLSLASTWORD @MTaylorNDP @RobinMartinPC @NightShiftMD @LinLi_RN @Thomsod

And what happens when the complex person turns 18 and is kicked out of the program? Their needs don’t magically disappear. Why is it ok to abandon the most fragile? What do studies show about that? #complexcare @JILLSLASTWORD @RobinMartinPC
Lin Li (she/her) retweeted
When kids w/ #medicalcomplexity turn 18, the transition to adult care
- is stressful
- feels like 'falling off a cliff'
- fills families w/ dread
- involves a mix of services in adult hospitals + community-care + at home
We must do better for them.
