derek is welcome to tweet me to death for saying this but the thing you gotta remember when referring to Dr. King’s words and example re: non-violent protest is they still murdered him for it.
I admire the courage of people protesting the ICE raids in California. I'm against violent protests and think they're counterproductive. I also think that non-violent protests send a more powerful and enduring message. Have long believed in Dr. King's message about using non-violent resistance. That said, I also hope everyone protesting stays safe. This is a long struggle, and there are many ways to support immigrants beyond what's happening right now in the streets. You can volunteer with pro-immigrant organizations, offer material aid, or even pursue a career in immigration law. I share your anger and believe we can channel this energy into something that makes meaningful change for immigrants. But to do that, you have to stay safe.

Riot Medic Reminders: -Nothing goes in the eyes except water or saline. -Milk & antacids are not effective against tear gas but are great markers for law enforcement. -Less than lethal projectiles are still blunt force trauma. Protect your head.

The Nazis weren’t history’s only monsters. Japan’s Unit 731 froze prisoners alive, dissected children without anesthesia, and unleashed plague bombs. At the center was Shirō Ishii, a man more monstrous than history dares to remember. Here’s the horror they tried to erase:

Everyone says they’d pay more for “Made in the USA.” I tested it. We make a $129 filtered showerhead manufactured in China. With tariffs surging to 170%, we explored reshoring. We found a U.S. supplier. Our costs nearly tripled. I ran a clean A/B test: 👇

Trump has arguably done more today to damage America than any President in history has during their entire first term. Here is a recap in case you missed it all: - Trump paused all aid to Ukraine. - Trump and DOGE have laid off 10% of the NIH's Alzheimer's research center. - Trump announced 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico starting tomorrow. - Trump announced 20% tariffs on China. - Investor Peter Schiff, who endorsed Trump now calls for investigation into Trump for alleged “pump-and-dump scheme.” - The DOW, NASDAQ and S&P fall huge. - Canada announces plans for huge retaliatory tariffs against America.

And if you thinks it’s not infecting more people than the @CDCgov has captured with their late stage passive surveillance system, you’re also kidding yourself. This is serious & needs early, active surveillance & full, timely, transparent reporting. We haven’t been getting this

Thomas Jefferson wrote in 1778 that literacy was vital to the health of a nation and “tyranny” would follow if enough people were uneducated, and I do worry that the decline in reading skills is having consequences we’re only beginning to grapple with.

🚨 JUST IN: Democrats are actually discussing impeaching Elon Musk. Yes, you read that right. REP. JAMIE RASKIN: “Some people have been talking about impeaching President Elon Musk right now, on the theory he has usurped the powers of the presidency.” We’ve officially hit the point where a tech billionaire is so deep in the government that Congress is debating whether he needs to be impeached like a rogue head of state. If that doesn’t scream dystopia, I don’t know what does.

On March 11, 889, a 22-year-old Japanese emperor wrote in his diary about his new black cat. "On the oth Day of the 2nd Month of the First Year of the Kampo era. Taking a moment of my free time, I wish to express my joy of the cat. It arrived by boat as a gift to the late Emperor, received from the hands of Minamoto no Kuwashi. The color of the fur is peerless. None could find the words to describe it, although one said it was reminiscent of the deepest ink. It has an air about it, similar to Kanno. Its length is 5 sun, and its height is 6 sun. I affixed a bow about its neck, but it did not remain for long. In rebellion, it narrows its eyes and extends its needles. It shows its back. When it lies down, it curls in a circle like a coin. You cannot see its feet. It's as if it were circular Bi disk. When it stands, its cry expresses profound loneliness, like a black dragon floating above the clouds. By nature, it likes to stalk birds. It lowers its head and works its tail. It can extend its spine to raise its height by at least 2 sun. Its color allows it to disappear at night. I am convinced it is superior to all other cats."

1/ Immigrants in the U. S. have always been conditioned to distant themselves as far from Black people as possible, unless they own businesses that profit from Black patrons.
