Veteran, Ian, who spent years collecting poppies for the Royal British Legion (RBL) has passed away, and his care home team is appealing to the Lancashire community to give him the honourable send off he deserves. The veteran, who served with the RAF and had Parachute Regiment connections, passed away peacefully on August 31. Having spent his retirement actively supporting fellow service members, he leaves behind no known surviving family or next of kin. Care home staff arranging his funeral are calling on local military organisations, veterans, standard bearers, and members of the public to stand in as his family for one final salute. A funeral will take place on Thursday, September 24, at 3pm, at Accrington Crematorium, Burnley Road, Accrington.
