Auto insurance rates are soaring.
Rates were up 22.2% year-over-year in Q1 of 2024:
The highest year-over-year increase in nearly 50 years.
Why is this happening? Many reasons, but to list a few:
- More cars being totaled
- Parts and labor costs have gone up
- Longer repair times in some cases = more costs for the insurer
- More electronics in vehicles (leading to more issues and more expensive repairs)
- And more...
Now add this to already high vehicle prices and interest rates... and you have a perfect storm brewing.

Very interesting trend shift in the housing market:
Active listings on the US housing market jumped by nearly 36,000 in October 2023, according to Reventure.
This was the highest reported jump in October inventory levels in over 10 years.
Furthermore, October is historically known for sharp decreases in inventory.
A month which is historically tight for housing inventory just saw a historic jump.
All while mortgage rates hit 8% for the first time since 2000.
A trend worth watching.

Taking about surviving
In 1863, Jacob Miller, a Union Army soldier from the 9th Indiana Infantry, miraculously survived after being shot in the head during the Civil War.
Despite being declared dead by his captain, Miller regained consciousness and lived for another 54 years.

In 2007, US Navy SEAL Mike Day survived being shot 27 times by al-Qaeda militants in his legs, arms, abdomen, buttocks, and scrotum, and was knocked out by a grenade.
Remarkably, he not only survived but also managed to eliminate all four militants and later walked away unaided after regaining consciousness.
He left the Navy in 2010 after 21 years of service. He went on to represent Wounded Warriors, and spent the rest of his life advocating for veterans.
He unfortunately passed away in March 2023.
