In 1967 Britain had more electric vehicles on its roads than every other country on earth put together, and they were all delivering milk.
There were tens of thousands of them. The milk float: open sided, battery under the floor, top speed of about 15 miles an hour, and a whine you could pick out in your sleep. It was charged overnight at the depot and was back there by lunchtime.
It carried glass bottles. Each one was collected from your step the next morning, washed and refilled. A bottle went round like that 20 or 30 times before it broke. The foil cap went for scrap. There was no other packaging.
The milk had come from farms within a few miles, through a local dairy, and was on the step before 7.
So here is what the country had. A zero-emission delivery fleet. Reusable containers with a return rate any modern scheme would kill for. No plastic. A supply chain you could cycle the length of. A man who noticed if an old lady's bottles were piling up, and knocked.
It was dismantled in about 15 years, because a supermarket could sell milk a few pence cheaper in a plastic jug as a way of getting you through the door.
Every piece of that system is now the subject of a government target for 2040.
It was running in 1967, silently, in the dark, and nobody thought it was worth a mention.

🧬🦠 What connects a Western diet, the gut microbiome and colorectal cancer?
New #GUTPodcast with Dr Soeren Ocvirk discusses new research by Osswald et al. in Gut: “Secondary bile acid production by gut bacteria promotes Western diet-associated colorectal cancer.”
The study provides experimental evidence that secondary bile acids—particularly deoxycholic acid (DCA)—produced by 7α-dehydroxylating gut bacteria can promote colorectal tumour development in the context of a Western diet.
Using a combination of a porcine CRC model, multi-omics, gnotobiotic mouse models and human colon organoids, the researchers show that specific bile-acid-producing bacteria can increase DCA production, epithelial proliferation and tumour burden.
Importantly, manipulating this pathway reduced tumour-promoting effects, pointing towards the gut microbiome–bile acid axis as a potential target for prevention.
For clinicians and scientists, this is an important step from correlation towards causality.
For everyone else: it adds another piece to the puzzle of how what we eat, our gut microbes and the chemistry they produce may interact in colorectal cancer risk.

3yrs ago I copied this protocol and helped almost 100 people achieve drug free remission. Using this, the GP's I worked for saw remission cases for the first time in their careers.
If you work in primary care ask yourself why this isn't even an option.

Glad to see this story being given the coverage it deserves. Not least because @pcaruanagalizia, Daphne’s son, was Tortoise’s star reporter for many years. But more importantly because it’s a morality tale of where political corruption leads: to murder & impunity in the very heart of Europe.

God help us.
America has traitors among us at the highest levels.
Shaking the hand of and grinning at the man who kills Ukrainian children and bombs shopping malls. Murdered old people. And freedom fighters like Alexi Navalny. It's disgraceful. Reagan is rolling over in his grave.
One of the lowest points in American history.
Two grifting scumbags, representing financial interests of the US President, groveling before a mass murdering dictator that's currently helping Iran murder Americans and waging war against every American ally that's fought alongside the US, all for promises of lucrative business deals that Putin will never give them.

Trump described Canada as a far greater enemy of the USA than Putin’s Russia.
It is time to say this openly:
– The USA is currently ruled by a dictator who was most likely recruited back in the days of the USSR.
– As it turns out, the American system of checks and balances does not actually exist in reality.
– The trust between Europe and the USA—which had existed since at least 1945—has been buried; if not forever, then certainly for a very long time.

SNYDER: You can't imagine Trump or Hegseth visiting Kyiv. It's not that it's not going to happen. It's just unimaginable.
It's psychically impossible for them. They can't be in a world where people are actually taking real risks for real things.
That would be too much for them. They can't be in a place where there is courage.
That would be opposed to just manipulating the rest of us with words, which is designed to make them look tough.
They'd never take any risk for anything themselves. They believe that all talk of patriotism, democracy is just for show.
These are people who fundamentally will just tell you what you want to hear in order to get what they want personally.
For them, whole idea of democracy, and even national sovereignty, is all just a joke, right? Just a means to an end.
When they're confronted by others for whom democracy or national sovereignty isn't a joke, who would fight for freedom.
Not just use words like "fight for freedom," but who would, like Ukraine, do it, when they're confronted and are doing it.
Have been doing it for 4 and a half years now, they don't have a way to respond besides scorn, spite, and dismissal.
That's the only thing they can do, because they're in a world where those are all words, and it's all just words.
When they're confronted with actual human beings, men and women who are actually taking risks, they're helpless.
They have to get that topic off the table. They're only comfortable in a world where everybody is venal and hypocritical.
Where everybody lies all the time. And so I think that's the fundamental thing: it's just really uncomfortable for them.

Whole-genome sequencing is one of the most powerful investments in healthcare.
As @MattRVerse points out on @DNATodayPodcast, U.S. healthcare spending is now averaging nearly $15,000 per person each year, yet the cost of whole-genome sequencing has fallen to around 1% of that annual spend.
A single MyOme test has the potential to deliver significant healthcare savings by improving preventive care and accelerating rare disease diagnoses.
