For 55 years, Sesame Street has welcomed all children to learn and play with our furry friends, friendly monsters, and warm and gentle grown-ups. Everyone has a place on Sesame Street and has since our first episode premiered on November 10th, 1969. Happy #SesameStreetDay

From author James Ponti: “Never before has it been more important to get books into the hands of young readers. Books that can inspire. Books that demonstrate compassion and empathy. Books that let the marginalized know that they are seen and loved. We can make that happen.” 💕

Buy your kids books for Christmas. Teach them that reading is for pleasure, not to pass a test. Let them pick their own books, let them read what they love, let them see you reading with joy and enthusiasm.

Something to ponder as you head out to vote today, for free. In the Library's Rosa Parks Papers collection, there's a receipt for the poll tax she had to pay to vote in Alabama in 1956. Poll taxes, a Jim Crow-era voter suppression tool, were not abolished federally until 1964.
From the Library's Rosa Parks Papers, a Poll Tax Receipt from the county of Montgomery, Alabama from 1956. It was paid in the amount of $1.50 and signed by Rosa Louise Parks.
