There are many inspirational women across our city. A hack politician presiding over cuts in services to our most vulnerable citizens is not one of them.

More & more libraries having to close due to short-staffing, years ago when there was give in the system this would rarely if ever happen but most services are below minimum staffing levels + lots of staff off sick due to stress & the aftermath of covid.

Good to hear @BhamCityCouncil Deputy Leader Sharon Thompson on the life-changing opportunities that books can bring to people’s lives. Shame that @BrumLabour are closing libraries, cutting opening hours and harming life chances of our young people

Many youngsters in Birmingham will be denied these life-changing opportunities as @BrumLabour damages the city’s network of community libraries and MPs like @PreetKGillMP stand by. @BrumLibraries @BrumLibraryZine @HallgreenSave

People sometimes say kids don't read any more. But I'm always amazed by the excitement you see on author visits, especially #WorldBookDay. Give kids free choice of what to read, let them follow their excitement wherever it leads - and THEY STILL LOVE BOOKS!

Happy World Book Day!

ALT Title: Possible Early Precursors to World Book Day 1. Boktide, 1000ad A grand tournament of literature, culminating with the king choosing one 800k For 'Ethelred's Book Club' and writing a blurb for the cover. 2. Night of Sacrifice, 800ad By the light of the full moon, offerings of overdue books and tiny sums of money were made at shrines to the savage librarian-god Schussh. 3. Day of Banishment, 600ad The weakest member of the tribe was given writing materials, sent into the wilderness and only allowed to return if they wrote a bestselling book.

On #worldbookday2025 we must shout out for free access to books. The destruction of public libraries must be stopped. If people can’t afford books and there are no libraries or book stocks then … 🤷
“Nearly two-thirds (63%) of councils said they planned to reduce spending on services from April. The areas most commonly sought out for cuts were parks and leisure centres, local business support, arts and culture, adult social care, and libraries” theguardian.com/society/2025…

Public #Libraries are the very best places to visit if you want to #ReadYourWay. Not only are they palaces of books of all different genres and styles, but all those books are completely free! #WorldBookDay2025
Our research shows that children are more likely to read if they enjoy it, so we’re celebrating their choices and encouraging them to Read Their Way!
