Fantastic to be at today’s EUROLIS seminar at Europe House 🇪🇺🙌
The theme is “Open Libraries: Equity Across and Beyond the Shelves”.
Look forward to hearing all about efforts to promote inclusivity within the library sector.

This afternoon we’re visiting a specialist library for blind and visually impaired citizens of Astana. #WLIC2025
We’ve been shown equipment for creating braille and other alternative formats, as well a brand new prestigious collection of items from Kazakh poet Abai Qunanbaiuly.
Friday is tours day at #WLIC2025 🙌
First stop is Maqsut Narikbayev University Library.
It is housed in a building affectionately known by students as the “banana building” owing to its bright yellow exterior.
The library itself was recently refurbished and looks stunning 🤩
We got to meet the famous MNU Cat - mascot of Maqsut Narikbayev University Library 😸 instagram.com/p/h6_-MNuCat/ #WLIC2025

A privilege to hear diverse perspectives from some of the library world’s emerging leaders at this morning’s #WLIC2025 session.
You can find out more about them and about the @IFLA Emerging Leaders Scheme here: ifla.org/news/meet-our-2025-…

ALT Imogen Negomi - one of IFLA’s Emerging Leaders - speaking at the #WLIC2025 event. Other Emerging Leaders can be seen in the audience, along with Dr Hena Ismail from the Arab Federation for Libraries and Information and session chair Stephen Wyber. A slide with the profile picture of all the Emerging Leaders on it can also be seen.
Fascinating hearing examples of how libraries are responding to challenges to democracy @IFLAwlic this morning.
These range from a censorship case in Germany, to provision of prison libraries in Canada, to encouraging digital literacy to combat misinformation in India. #WLIC2025

Ahh, a rare glimmer of positivity in this ever-festering cesspit of divisiveness and general grimness that remains of this site 🥹... #ReadingNotRioting
#Video: Two weeks ago our @Liverpoollib staff were devastated by the attack on Spellow Library in Walton.
Since then, something wonderful has happened that has restored their faith in people's love for libraries...

Yesterday I replied the following to a message posted by the owner of this site as he once again posted ill-informed comments about UK politics
Replying to @elonmusk
We have freedom of speech in the UK; it's written into our law in the 1998 Human Rigts Act. But rights come with responsibilities (I appreciate that's a concept you're not familiar with); there's a requirement not to incite criminality or spread hatred online. We find society works better that way.

Liverpool's Spellow Lane library torched last night. What could be more 'patriotic' than destroying a centre which serves the local community?
Ooh - now we’re talking 😍 #OlympicGames
Another damp one @Wimbledon today.... but fab that @WimbledonMuseum has now opened the incredible Kenneth Ritchie Wimbledon Library to visitors during The Championships! 📚🎾
Can highly recommend a visit to anyone waiting for play to commence at SW19 ☔ #Wimbledon2024 #Wimbledon – at Merton, London
