This is an ongoing project so the number of objects accessible via eHive will continue to increase. Later this year, the Melbourne Athenaeum Archives will also be searchable via our website. This will be part of the wider redesign of the history section of the website.

eHive is a web-based cataloguing and collections management system that is used worldwide across museums, galleries, historical societies and archives to document and publish collections online.

We are pleased to advise that a selection of items from the Melbourne Athenaeum Archives can now be accessed online. Access is via the eHive website at ehive.com/collections/205605…

Have you ever seen a ghost at the Athenaeum? 👻
It's come to light one of Melbourne's favourite theatres is haunted by ghosts - on Friday the 13th, nonetheless!
An usherette who wanted to be a singing and dancing actress refuses to leave the historic Athenaeum. @allanraskall #9News

We are thrilled that our shelves are playing host to #Bookish, an exhibition of contemporary artists’ books by members of the @printcouncil_au. The exhibition is open to view March 17-19 and March 22-26 during our usual opening hours. @Creative_Vic @NGVMelbourne
We love our members! Some kind words from a new member, “… a more lovely, friendly, kindly staff you could not hope to find. So nice to sit and admire books in this little gem of a library in the city.” #LibrariesChangeLives #melbournelibrary
We loved having the Diploma of Library and Information Services students from @VUPolytechnic visit us today. We talked all things libraries, cataloguing, the history of the Athenaeum building, and they even saw the oldest working lift in Melbourne 🛗
Correct! “In vain I have struggled… You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you”
It’s a sunny Wednesday in Melbourne, so that calls for our #OpeningLinesChallenge! Can you identify the book from this opening line? ✏️
