Five years since we left the EU and not one tangible benefit to have come from it.
Most telling of all is how it has diminished our ability to generate wealth and thus provide for our defence and public services in challenging times. Far from getting rid of red tape there were 41 million customs declarations to be made for trade between the U.K. and EU in 2023. Not surprisingly over 16,000 SMEs have given up exporting to Europe and our goods exports are rising at the paltry rate of 0.3% per annum compared to the OECD average of of 4.3%. Margaret Thatcher helped create the Single Market in goods and services because she could see clearly the boost it could give to our economy and it bore fruit. Until reality dawns for our politicians we are back to the 1960s-constant failing initiatives to boost growth, stagflation and impoverishment. We deserve better and it is within our power to get better. But that means abandoning the politics of fantasy.

The UK needs to lead in Europe again. We can't rely on Trump, and Labour hasn't shown the urgency or ambition to fix our relationship with our closest neighbours.
A UK-EU customs union is the first step repairing that relationship.

"The full ramifications of us not being in the EU are starting to take it's toll"
"If I was Prime Minister, I would be coming along on my bended knees asking to be let back in"
"It's all to do with trade, free trade, small traders can't ship abroad now, it's complicated. It's a terrible situation"
"How do we get out of it? Get back in the EU"

At PMQs I challenged the Prime Minister to drop his opposition to a new UK-EU customs union.
With Donald Trump threatening trade wars, we should rebuild ties with our European neighbours and tear down the trade barriers and red tape hurting British businesses.

As an alternative to ruining the environment, immiserating the poor, freezing the old, and selling the NHS, why doesn't Labour shed its red lines and rejoin the SM?
There's £100 billion annually right there for the taking.

New YouGov poll shows only three in ten Britons 30% say that it was right for the UK to vote to leave the EU, compared to 55% who say it was wrong.
