'Spilling over floors, walls and balconies, as well as in framed works on walls, artist @LibbyHeaney's intervention @Orleanshg conjures up the formlessness of quantum physics within the formal constraints of a historical building,' writes @floatingstones

🐙 @LibbyHeaney always picks the best places for her solo shows, look at this palace at @Orleanshg 😍
Filled with soft tentacles, hard quantum, inner shadows and the odd Turner painting 👻

Can 'presence' be the medium and 'interaction' be the message?
The Experiential Award celebrates artists crafting immersive worlds exploring this concept and this year’s entries reveal a powerful shift: stories are no longer told solely in images or text, but through proximity, breath, gesture, and response.
Artists are building emotionally intelligent systems to be spaces that remember, installations that adapt to your heartbeat, and environments that evolve through touch.
From VR memory rooms to tactile narratives and collective installations, these works explore how art can be both deeply personal and profoundly social.

A rare opportunity to acquire Quantum Climates (2025) by Libby Heaney, now live via Sotheby’s. Heaney is widely regarded as a leading voice in quantum art, and this piece exemplifies her pioneering approach.
Conceptually, the work engages with how quantum technologies might shape our environmental futures, while also pointing to the deeper historical and philosophical implications of these shifts. Institutions like @SomersetHouse, @SerpentineUK, and @southbankcentre, all of which have exhibited Heaney’s work, truly reflecting her critical position in our current digital art landscape.
Also! For those in London, don’t miss her upcoming solo exhibition at Orleans House Gallery, presented as part of Tate’s Turner 250 programme 🪻💐

The tentacled creature in the video is based on Heaney's watercolour paintings, representing the monstrosity of humanity
and making a link to cephalopods who have delocalised brains and alternative ways of sensing the world - just like quantum systems 🐙

For Quantum Climates (2025) at @sothebysverse Heaney uses bespoke generative quantum video editing - hand coded on an IBM qubit machine - to portray multiple possible futures for our planet at once - from polluted oceans to serene forests. Everything is possible 🌎

Heaney’s practice incorporates traditional mediums of sculpture and drawing, creating raw, emotional, striking works with seamless applications of AI, quantum or AR: technology is there to amplify the message, not steal the show.

. @LibbyHeaney has a PhD in quantum computing and 20 scientific publications, which enables her to explore quantum technologies deeply and technically like few other artists. In fact, she is the first artist to work with quantum computing in 2019.

I've always admired @LibbyHeaney for her critical and creative work with emerging technologies, from AI back in 2016 to the first quantum artworks in 2019. Never following the trends, but setting them 😎
