The #LucyLetby case is emblematic of how unfit for purpose the entire system is: incompetent judges, bullying counsel, lack of expert evidence protocols, lack of duty on defence lawyers to investigate, corrupt police and prosecutors, disclosure failures. It just goes on and on

This transcript is the final day of Lucy Letby's cross-examination, followed by Ben Myer KC's re-examination. However, it begins with the lawyerly equivalent of a raging argument between Ben Myers and Nick Johnson, under the banner of "Submissions".
The cross-examination on this day was particularly cruel and heartless, including the arrest/pyjamas questions.
Also on this day Nick Johnson ambushed the defence with a document to be put in evidence at the last minute. This consisted of details and images of Letby's social life taken from her diary, mobile phone & facebook page, which was to be used in cross-examination.
Ben Myers objected but Judge Goss allowed it.
The cross-examination ends with this:
JOHNSON: You were having a good time, weren't you?
LETBY: Yes, there were times in those years that I did have good times, yes.
JOHNSON: Drinking fizz, going to the races?
LETBY: Yes.
JOHNSON: Yes. You felt like this because you knew that you had killed and grievously injured these children?
LETBY: No.
JOHNSON: And that is the truth, isn't it?
LETBY: No, it's not the truth.
JOHNSON: You are a murderer.
LETBY: No, I am not.
JOHNSON: You have murdered many children.
LETBY: I've never murdered a child or harmed any of them.
MR JOHNSON: I have nothing further. Thank you.

‘Prolonged engagement with violent ideation’ says a contributor to @BBCRadio4 ‘The World Tonight’, describing the Tumbler Ridge shooters’ online interaction with an AI chat.
Mass shootings are overwhelmingly a crime perpetrated by men.
Yet the presenter repeatedly uses female pronouns for the shooter, even though the shooter was in fact a young man.
This matters; if male crimes are logged and misreported as if committed by women, this impacts the gathering of accurate crime statistics, appropriate intervention, and fails to address the ongoing problem of male violence.
And had ChatGPT known the shooter was male, perhaps they might have taken his ‘violent ideation’ more seriously?

The @labourunionsuk statement calls for expanded trans rights but makes no mention of women's sex-based rights, including access to single-sex changing rooms and toilets at work.
Were female members consulted before this statement was issued?

He was affirmed as a girl from the age of twelve, dropped out of school a few years later, sank deeply into drugs, mental illness, obsession with guns and violence and then murdered eight people at a middle school in cold blood. The BBC takes care to affirm his trans identity as his mother did starting at the age of 12 until he murdered her just before murdering five students and a teacher. To the BBC it is imperative that he be honored as a woman and remembered as a woman. To the BBC he was a woman.

A summary of Janet Cox statement to the Thirlwall Inquiry:
Mrs Cox a Band 4 nursery nurse who had worked at the hospital from 1986 to 2022 stated that she did not have a clear memory of the relationships between clinicians and managers and medical professionals. She also stated that she did not wish to comment "as [her] view the Trust and various so-called medical 'professionals' is prejudiced by the horrendous way they treated Lucy, (Ms Letby)".
Janet Cox had no concerns or suspicions about Letby's conduct. In her view, Letby was "An exemplary nurse who is completely innocent of all the alleged crimes." Ms Cox could not recall the precise dates when she became aware of the suspicions or concerns of others about Letby but she does recall "gradually becoming aware that certain Consultants, in particular Brearey, appeared to be trying to make Lucy a scapegoat for the increased number of deaths/collapses".
Janet Cox: "Obviously any death is a worry, but I did not think this at the time, nor do I think now, that there was anything sinister about the increase in the number of deaths/collapses. I do not see how you can set a figure on how many deaths are acceptable in one particular time frame. The very reason these babies required admission to an NNU was because they had a high chance of dying or collapsing."
Janet Cox considers that if there had been CCTV monitoring, it would have proved Letby's innocence.

100% @LibDems are lucky to have members of @hollowood_zoe 's calibre. Goodness knows they have spent enough effort denigrating her. One day the party will realise.

The @LibDems seem to have squeezed an extra motion into their conference agenda so that they can campaign to have women's rights removed from Equality Act protection. This may not be the vote winner they think. (Hint: over 50% of voters are women.)
Yesterday attendees at #ldconf were told that 2 (of 4) proposed emerg motions cd be chosen in ballot, for debate. This morning they were told that in fact 3 had been selected & the presentation suggested ‘restoring trans rights’ had come top of ballot:

This must come as no surprise. The mental health implications of gender dysphoria & subsequent treatment have been deliberately suppressed for years.
A landmark Finnish study has found a sharp rise in psychiatric illness among adolescents following sex-alteration procedures.
The peer-reviewed study, published in Acta Paediatrica, tracked every young person under 23 who contacted Finland's gender clinics between 1996 and 2019.
A total 2,083 individuals were studied, with 16,643 matched controls. They were followed for up to 25 years.
Finland's health registers are mandatory, which means no one opts out — this is the complete national picture.
The numbers: psychiatric morbidity rose from 9.8% to 60.7% in adolescents who underwent feminising reassignment, and from 21.6% to 54.5% in masculinising reassignment.
Even after adjusting for prior psychiatric history, gender-referred adolescents faced five times the risk of male population controls, and three times the risk of female controls.
"Psychiatric needs do not subside after medical gender reassignment," the authors concluded.
Referrals after 2010 arrived sicker. 47.9% had already needed psychiatric treatment before their first clinic visit, against 15.3% among controls.
The authors' read: for some adolescents, gender distress may be secondary to other mental health challenges.
The evidence keeps mounting. The silencing continues anyway.
How many more adolescents will be told this is "care"?
The 37 professionals closest to Lucy Letby had no suspicions about her & do not believe she murdered any babies on the CoCH Neonatal Unit.
It's still much tougher being a woman than a man in politics.
