❌ A Shortcut to Safety? There's something deeply revealing about today's under-16 social media ban announcement. Not because of the ban itself, but because of what it says about modern government. As a parent, I understand the concern. Social media can be a cesspit. Bullying, exploitation, addictive design, harmful content, every parent worries about it. Any sensible parent does. Full disclosure, I run a VPN company, @LibShield, and yes, companies like mine may well benefit if this policy drives people towards privacy tools and workarounds. That doesn't make the policy sound. It may actually prove the weakness in the whole idea. Parenting has never been about outsourcing responsibility to politicians like Keir Starmer. It has always been about teaching judgement, values and resilience long before a child is left to navigate the world alone. What troubles me is that we seem increasingly drawn to the idea that if something is difficult, it should simply be banned. How is this enforced? If every user must prove they are over 16, what does that mean in reality? More identity checks? More age verification? More personal data handed over simply to open an app? If the answer is restriction, teenagers will seek workarounds. VPNs are not fringe technology. They are legal, common and simple to use. A generation raised online will not suddenly forget how the internet works because Westminster wishes it so. There is a difference between making something safer and making it forbidden. If algorithms are harmful, tackle the algorithms. If platforms are failing children, regulate the platforms. If online safety standards are inadequate, raise them. Bans make headlines. Reform makes a difference. Children need protection. Parents need support. Society needs better technology. What it doesn't need is the comforting illusion that difficult problems disappear because Parliament says so.

🇪🇺 On This Day in 2016: #Brexit Didn’t Give Us Back Control, It Took It Away Brexit was never a clean break. It was a botched amputation, sold with patriotic fanfare and stitched together with lies. What came after wasn’t sovereignty, but a slow suffocation of freedoms too easily taken for granted. The right to move, to trade, to settle; gone or tangled in red tape that stifles more than it protects. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland never voted for this. We watched from the sidelines as a majority elsewhere dragged us out of a union we valued. For many of us, it meant the end of plans we worked years to realise. I had to give up a home in Spain, a home I worked damned hard for, and not because I changed my mind, but because Britain changed the rules. Bureaucracy, taxes, residency hurdles, and rising hostility meant staying was no longer viable. Even my work suffered. I built a VPN business @LibShield used by thousands of expats to stay connected, informed, secure. Post-Brexit, customs chaos and compliance nightmares throttled its reach. The customer base shrank as people came home; not triumphantly, but reluctantly, their lives in Europe made untenable. What’s been gained? The NHS didn’t get its £350 million. What it got was staff shortages, endless demand, and the same exhausted promises. Trade deals? Marginal. Borders? Tighter for the wrong reasons. Power? Concentrated in fewer hands, wielded with less scrutiny. Brexit was never about control for people like me. It was about control over us. The real project wasn’t independence, it was indulgence; of old grudges, personal ambition, and a hollow fantasy of Empire 2.0. 🤬 If there's a benefit to Brexit, I’m still waiting to see it.
