Active Surveillance for Screen-detected Low- and Intermediate-risk Prostate Cancer: Extended Follow-up up to 25 Years in the GÖTEBORG-1 Trial sciencedirect.com/science/ar… This long-term follow-up study from the GÖTEBORG-1 screening trial evaluated outcomes in 488 men with screen-detected #ProstateCancer managed with active surveillance (AS), including very-low-, low-, and intermediate-risk groups. Over a median of 18 years, the prostate cancer–specific survival rate remained high at 94% at 25 years, with especially favorable outcomes in very-low-risk patients (99%). However, the risk of treatment or disease progression increased over time, with only 38% remaining treatment-free at 22 years. The findings affirm the long-term safety of AS for appropriately selected men but underscore the need for lifelong monitoring and patient counseling, as there was no standardized AS protocol applied. Outcomes of 10 years of PSA screening for prostate cancer in Norwegian men with Lynch syndrome onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/… This prospective observational study investigated #ProstateCancer (PCa) incidence and characteristics in 225 male carriers of pathogenic germline variants in mismatch repair (MMR) genes, specifically focusing on the MSH2 and MSH6 genes, who underwent annual PSA screening in Norway. Of the participants, 22 (9.8%) developed PCa, with MSH2 and MSH6 carriers showing the highest incidence rates (14.5% and 13.1%, respectively). Half of the tumors had a Gleason score ≥4+3, indicating aggressive disease, and a substantial proportion had advanced pathological stages. The standardized incidence ratio (SIR) for all MMR carriers was 9.54, with even higher SIRs for MSH2 (13.0) and MSH6 (13.74) carriers, suggesting a significantly increased PCa risk.
