🔊We had news reports recently about mixing in Lake Geneva due to the sustained 🥶 & 💨. I visualize here the daily mean water temps below @LexploreLeman since November. Note that we arrive at that very small water column temperature/density gradient, enabling this deep mixing!

I am about to launch a first large-scale attempt to process Sentinel-3 OLCI products on the 🇨🇭supercomputer Piz Daint @cscsch. The effort is to atmospherically correct all available L1 products with IDEPIX, POLYMER, ACOLITE and C2RCC over @LexploreLeman from 2018/10-2023/10🤯

🌡️The day after I posted this plot, the record was beat by a significant margin and is now at 28.67 °C (daily maximum record happened same day at 34.69 °C).
Even in the context of recent years, this is astonishing warm for end of August.
🌡️The current #heatwave still has a tight grip on Switzerland. Lake Geneva, and with it the research platform @LexploreLeman, is in the epicenter of the heat wave. Yesterday a new record daily mean (!) air temperature of 27.49 °C was measured by the AWS on @LexploreLeman.
