As a conservative who (with the exception of 1 year in FL, which I hated) has primarily lived in blue states unless I'm on my annual hunting trip to MT or something since - I mean, since basically forever - I've always despised this argument.
Those states pay significantly higher wages and have obscenely more robust real estate markets, which is why they cost more. And, loathe as I am to say it, they give a lot of money to you red staters so that you don't starve to death because most of those states are poor AF.

On September 12, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said Italy would continue supporting Ukraine even if that position costs her votes.
In an interview with Il Foglio, Meloni rejected alliances with politicians who call themselves patriots while voting against aid to Kyiv.
According to Meloni, Ukraine’s resistance has reminded Europeans of the value of national identity and patriotism. Russia’s attempt to seize Kyiv awakened Europe and demonstrated that the continent can no longer completely entrust its security to others.
She stressed that supporting Ukraine is not only about defending Kyiv — it is also about defending Rome.
If international rules are replaced by the law of the strongest, Italy itself has a great deal to lose.
Meloni made her position clear: she will not abandon her convictions for the support of individual parties or for her own political advantage. 🇮🇹🇺🇦
