.@YvetteCooperMP’s criticism of @Keir_Starmer now he’s gone looks hard to square with her own record. She didn’t resign when Starmer gave her a privileged and well-paid place in his Cabinet. She stayed and accepted the position You can’t have it both ways. If you believed the leadership was so fundamentally wrong, Yvette, where was the courage to say so when it mattered? Titles should never matter more than principle. On this, Cooper’s actions raise serious questions about her integrity and judgment.

Question time. Why does @AndyBurnham need to tour the country to discover that the cost of living is too high, people are keeping less and less of their own money, high streets have been decimated, rents are through the roof, social housing is in desperately short supply, and inequality continues to grow? None of this is a revelation. These problems have been documented relentlessly for years by official statistics, councils, charities, economists, researchers and, most importantly, the people living through them. On and on and on it goes. Do we really need another politician touring the country to “listen” to people tell him what the data already makes abundantly clear? People don’t need another listening tour. They need action. If you’re serious about tackling inequality, housing, declining living standards and the collapse of our high streets, the question isn’t what’s the problem? Because we already know. The question is: what are you actually going to do about it?

My two penneth worth: The creeping negative discourse around @ZackPolanski’s social media presence misses a bigger picture. I actually think it’s an opportunity and see it as an opportunity. Zack has built a direct relationship with thousands of people online. That’s a strength, not a weakness. It’s what helped him win the leadership and transform @TheGreenParty. But as he’s grown, so too should his approach. That’s no bad thing and not a criticism. He doesn’t need to stop being present or authentic. He needs to stop being a one-person operation. The Green Party now has the resources to employ more staff. It’s time to build a really tight and active political leadership team around him: people who can organise, communicate, campaign and amplify his message. People he can really trust and depend on. He’s mastered the ‘solo content creator’ and got an audience. He now needs to go further. Leadership isn’t about doing everything yourself. It’s about building the capacity to lead. The time is now, Zack. And don’t forget that many of those complaining are not, and will never be, on your side.
