Cass Review thread:
We are anticipating the publication of the Cass Review’s final reports in the coming weeks.
We don’t know what the report will say until it’s published - this will be the case across the LGBTQ+ sector and amongst most of the press.

These early findings reflect the thoughts of Cleo, from @Genderintell, in her blog for us earlier this year.
Cleo shared that if you're already struggling, being trans can end up being a deciding factor in the level of support you receive.

Trans and non-binary people often don’t have safe family homes or support to fall back on in times of hardship.
This also means many participants had difficulties providing a guarantor for rented housing.

Increased housing costs mean that in the general population, more young people live with their families – 59% of 18-24 year olds in the UK are living with their parents.
But only 24% of 18-24 year old respondents were living with their family.

3/ Housing
Many respondents reported that they’ve struggled to find a secure home
Over 25% had spent time without a home.
7% had carried out work – such as sex work – for someone in order to be able to stay with them.

2/ Healthcare
Trans people often face discrimination when accessing healthcare. The research highlights excessive waits – often over 5-years for a first appointment.
This means many resort to private healthcare, which comes with a huge financial burden.

ALT A quote from a trans learning partnership research participant: "Income is the main reason I haven’t been able to transition. I know I would need to do it privately and I’m barely able to make it to the end of the month, so it’s not possible for me to save any money for transition-related care."

1/ Work
A majority of respondents were in work – 72.4%, compared to 76% in the UK as a whole.
But respondents were more likely to be in part-time work than the wider population.
Low pay was also common. 25% of those who reported their income were on less than £10,000 annually.
