I don't like the narrative of modern day homesteading (and localism more generally) being a form of retreat or disengagement from larger societal concerns. I see it more as a prefiguration of a healthier society that can emerge from its broad-scale and networked diffusion

My mother is 93. She tells stories of butchers performing illegal abortions on her friends pre- Roe v Wade. Friends who were raped by bosses, uncles, strangers. DNA test every baby and make it that the father is 50% responsible, time & money. Oh... Is that invasive?

Today I have decided to quit teaching. Genuinely not something I’d thought I’d ever say this time last year, but the life-altering trauma of the last nine months has changed me into a person I barely recognise and I am struggling with the demands of the job.

Preparing kids to become startup founders by having them do pitch contests is like preparing kids to become pilots by having them run around the room with their arms stuck out, making whooshing noises.

I live in the Maroubra area. If people were inconsiderate enough to have a party that resulted in 11 +ive cases then I’ll cop the consequences for their actions. If people out west have curfews then we shouldn’t be any different. Our community do not think we are above anyone.

Another Sunday snippet for my friends Schooling shouldn’t be something that society does. Rather, education must be recognized as both fundamental and prior to the very possibility of society itself. This does not mean we must manufacture learning.

Agreements between creator and viewer, that were once sacrosanct, such as which favorite characters must never be killed off, are being violated in popular series, in ways that reflect a growing zeitgeist in the Anthropocene generation.

A year ago, my wife and I carved out the time, 30-45 mins, to have coffee together every morning. I'm hard pressed to find another decision that has been more beneficial to my life than that one.

I’m reading a sci fi, fantasy, dystopia novel published in 2019 in which a virus wipes out 3/4 of Earth’s population and not once do they mention toilet paper

Time in isolation is losing its edges. The grammar of days has come unclocked. The suns up & suns down are counted in laundry loads. They are blurring. But the crow of our rooster beckons a deep, ancient comfort. It sounds like life, sun & dust. Vague childhood sensing awakening.
