Sketch for Survival Junior 2026 Finals We are delighted to let you know that two of our youngest artists have been selected as a Finalists in this year’s Sketch for Survival Junior competition. In this art competition, students from all over the world enter an original wildlife artwork, and lend their support to Explorers Against Extinction (Reg UK Charity No 1212387) and their campaigns to recover key species and restore ecosystems. Vittoria and Lily's artwork and other finalists can be seen here: Sketch for Survival Junior Finalists 2026 - Explorers Against Extinction This has been our 5th year participating as a school. Over 40 students joined in the school submission from Laurus and thousands from around the world, in the end only a select few were longlisted from the digital submissions . Once selected for the longlist, we had their artwork sent to England to be judged. Vittoria's koala friend and Lily's rainbow turtle traveled a long way and were selected as finalist pieces. As a Finalist, their artwork will be: Exhibited at the Crypt Gallery, Norwich, from 1–3 October, and the Oxo Gallery, London, from 18–22 November. Entered into the online fundraising auction run by the NPO, concluding on 22 November. Included in the Leisure Painter and The Artist magazines’ Sketch for Survival Junior People’s Choice Award, where the public can vote for their favourite artwork. Eligible for the Sketch for Survival Junior Artist of the Year Award, decided by the selection panel with the final say going to head judge Sophie Green! Additionally, as part of their Best In School Award, the organization arranged so that seedlings will be raised, nurtured and planted out in the Lamandau Wildlife Reserve by the Orangutan Foundation on behalf of the girls and our school. The eBook containing all of the artwork submitted by Laurus to the Sketch for Survival Junior 2026 contest will be sent out to parents via the LSC Newsletter.

Dr. Jacob Bleacher 🌕 Is there such a thing as a moonquake? That was one of the questions our primary students got to ask Dr. Jacob Bleacher, NASA’s Chief Exploration Scientist, during a special Q&A at Laurus. As part of his role at NASA, Dr. Bleacher works closely with astronauts, helping prepare them to explore the Moon and, one day, Mars — including training them in geology and how to think like scientists. So who better for our students to share their own questions about exploring other worlds with? 🌕🚀

Dr. Lori Glaze 🚀 What is the biggest challenge in sending people to Mars? A big question — and one our students got to ask Dr. Lori Glaze, Associate Administrator for NASA’s Human Spaceflight Mission Directorate, during her visit to Laurus. This is what we want our students to do: be curious, ask big questions, and have opportunities to find out where those questions might take them.

NASA Visits Laurus 🚀 What an incredible day at Laurus! We had the extraordinary opportunity to welcome a six-member NASA delegation, including some of NASA’s most senior leaders in human space exploration. Our secondary students heard from Dr. Lori Glaze, Associate Administrator for NASA’s Human Spaceflight Mission Directorate. Drawing on her experience overseeing Artemis II — NASA’s first crewed Artemis mission — Dr. Glaze took students behind the scenes of the mission before opening the floor for a fantastic Q&A. Meanwhile, a group of our primary students with a real passion for space exploration sat down with Dr. Jacob Bleacher, NASA’s Chief Exploration Scientist, for their own special Q&A — asking questions about the Moon, Mars, astronauts and the future of space exploration. Our students got to ask their own questions and connect with the people helping shape the future of human space exploration.
