Sheffield has many claims to fame, but perhaps one of the least well known is that the first-ever petition for women’s suffrage by a group of women came from the town in 1851. This was organised by the Women’s Rights Association (WRA). Thank you to @sheffhallamuni for inviting me to the exhibition and plaque unveiling.
I’m pleased to say that Sheffield now has many women in leadership positions, some of whom are here today.

Lots of festive fun at the @ZestCentre annual Christmas Family Fun Day.
Santa got a birthday cake and the choir had a great sing-along.
It was great to see many families enjoy the face painting, games, and activities 🎅🎄

Our Transport Secretary announced £1billion for local bus services across the UK, a great benefit to Sheffield and a positive step towards tackling the climate crisis.
Looking forward to seeing more from the biggest reform to England’s bus system in 40 years.

🚌 Today, South Yorkshire takes a big step forward in our plans for bus reform.
For the next twelve weeks, we’re running a public consultation on our proposals to take back control of routes, fares and timetables in SY.
It takes two minutes. Please, please do have you say! 🚌
🚌Have your say on taking back control of our buses 🚌
Today we’ve launched a 12-week public consultation to find out what you think about our proposals to introduce bus franchising in South Yorkshire to take control of the depots, bus fleet, routes and fares to make sure buses work better for the public.
It will have an impact on the lives of people who live, work, study and visit South Yorkshire, so please take a look at the consultation document and fill in the short or long questionnaire:

Out with the @SheffLabour team this evening speaking to residents 🌹
Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak to us.
This morning it was great to meet some of the residents of Northfield Court at their weekly coffee morning ☕🫖
We chatted about lots of different things including the city centre, buses, bins and Bole Hill Park. It was a lovely morning! 🙂🙂
Our buses are not good enough, lots of people in across our city cannot rely on them to get them to where they need to go.
The consultation launches on 23 October for you to have your say on the future of our bus services. Please do take part!

September has been #CatchTheBusMonth 🚏🚍. Buses open up life-changing opportunities. In South Yorkshire, @olivercoppard is progressing bus franchising, and @LouHaigh's Better Buses Bill will give every community control of their services. Hop on board a bus today! 🚌
Great to be on Eyre Street this morning to see the cyclists set off for the @TourofBritain 🚴♀️🚴🚴♂️

Sheffield again demonstrates today that we will not be divided by those who want to sow fear & hate. We take great pride in being a welcoming city and celebrating our diversity.
Strong and proactive policing all day. Thank you to @syptweet for working hard to keep people safe.

ALT I am utterly appalled by the violence we’re seeing in Rotherham today. What we’re seeing is not protest, it is brutal thuggery directed against some of the most vulnerable people in our society. The people carrying out these attacks do not represent the beautiful, brilliant place and people I know. We will come after those carrying out this violence will with the full force of the law.
