On April 8th, 2024, the first total solar eclipse in almost 700 years will pass through Kingston! A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon lies perfectly between the Earth and Sun, completely blocking the Sun's light. In Kingston, this blockage will last 3 minutes and 4 seconds!#ygk
Exactly one year from today at 3:22pm Kingston time there will be a total solar eclipse. The Moon will fully block our view of the Sun and we will have a full 3 minutes of darkness! #Eclipse2024 – at Kingston, Ontario

This story from @nasa is causing confusion- black holes don’t make sounds! So what’s actually happening?
The misconception that there is no sound in space originates because most space is a ~vacuum, providing no way for sound waves to travel. A galaxy cluster has so much gas that we've picked up actual sound. Here it's amplified, and mixed with other data, to hear a black hole!
NASA Data Sonification: Black Hole Remix
In this sonification of Perseus, the sound waves astronomers previously identified were extracted and made audible for the first time. The sound waves were extracted outward from the center.

Congratulations to everyone involved - so many years to get to #JWSTLaunch and what a launch it's been!
The number of people it takes to get this done is mind-boggling. Whole careers have been spent on it.
So much joy 🥰
