From a four-legged military prototype in 2005 to a fully electric humanoid in 2026, Boston Dynamics has spent 21 years building robots that consistently made the world stop and stare. BigDog opened the door, Electric Atlas walked through it.

From the Saturn V that carried humans to the Moon in 1969 to SpaceX’s Starship, the tallest rocket ever built at 394 feet, six decades of engineering pushed rockets taller, more powerful, and more reusable. Starship stands 31 feet taller than Saturn V, and unlike its predecessor, is designed to be fully reusable.

Things that ppl miss: HISIGK delivered its 17th lithography machine for European mkt this week. Is it cutting edge stuff? no. It launched 350/500-nm resolution stepper in 2024. Targets Micro LED, compound semi, MEMS, power modules, TSV/3D packaging They will probably get into iLine next. There are no short of companies working on the less advanced lithography machines that we hear about in the news, which means the supply chain is building up nicely & that higher end lithography machines are entering fabs & testing out.

I wonder if they have a driver passed out feature that turns on FSD if the launch was too crazy

Google is using AI to accelerate medical research. The results are incredible. 🤯 Here are 7 breakthroughs worth knowing about: 1. AI-assisted screening evaluated 30,000 compounds for Chagas disease and identified 2 FDA-approved drugs as potential candidates for repurposing. 2. AlphaProtein Novo designed new enzymes that demonstrated the ability to synthesize drug-related molecular structures and degrade plastics in laboratory tests. 3. Researchers analyzed genomic data from more than 54,000 people to investigate genetic variants associated with protein abundance. 4. An AI system identified 25% of interval cancers that had previously been missed by conventional screening in an evaluation involving approximately 125,000 women. 5. Researchers reconstructed a fragment of human brain tissue at nanoscale resolution, helping scientists investigate neural connections. 6. DeepVariant and DeepConsensus helped enable whole-genome sequencing and genetic diagnoses in less than 8 hours in time-critical clinical cases. 7. Google Earth AI helped identify 48 Ebola-exposed settlements and more than 45,500 people potentially at risk, accelerating public health risk assessment. We're beginning to build the tools to understand biology at an unprecedented scale and develop solutions to some of humanity's most difficult medical problems. Future of medicine looks radically different. we're still early. But the acceleration is real.
Together with scientists around the world, our models and tools are helping make disease more detectable, treatable, and preventable. 🧬 From pinpointing rare genetic variants to speeding up drug discovery, here’s how we’re helping turn lab breakthroughs into real-world care → goo.gle/4i48Cmr

Chaos to coordination: Vibrating material organizes itself into a single rhythm Scientists have developed a material that can grow and coordinate its own movement until the entire structure pulses in unison, paving the way for versatile robots that behave more like living systems. Publishing their findings today (14 Oct) in Nature, engineers from the University of Birmingham working with the Universities of Amsterdam, Lyon, Delft, Leiden and Cambridge reveal that they have created a mechatronic metamaterial that behaves as a ‘time crystal.' Time crystals are an unusual form of matter in which particles endlessly move in regular, repeating cycles. But here, the “particles” were not the atoms of molecules: they were robots. The scientists’ experimental material combines elastic structures, sensors, electronics, and actuators so that neighbouring components can influence one another. The key ingredient to generate the time-crystalline state was making the interactions between components ‘non-reciprocal,' meaning that one component's response to another does not have to be mirrored in reverse. When reciprocity was broken in the material, individual vibrations initially appeared at short wavelengths, but then progressively grew in wavelength, period, and amplitude - resulting in a globally synchronised state that the researchers demonstrate is a time crystal. The team describe the process they have discovered as ‘wave coarsening.' nanotechnologyworld.org/post…

This is a beautiful presentation. L1/L2 are gravitational waypoints into and out of cislunar space, the Moon gives up to 1 km/s of 'free dV' and cyclers can transfer resources into lower orbits.
The panel discussion was great. Here is a video I showed as part of my talk before-hand. Thank you Shane (@RossDynamicsLab ) for generating the video. It clearly explains how asteroid material brought to the Rim (SEL-1 or SEL-2 for example) can be distributed throughout Cislunar space.
