Raslouw Private Hospital in Centurion has successfully performed its first two living donor liver transplants, marking a significant milestone for the hospital and South Africa’s transplant services.
The procedures were led by Dr Imraan Sardiwalla, Lead Hepatobiliary Surgeon, and Dr Neha Kumar, Transplant Surgeon.
Both doctors recently completed intensive international fellowships at leading transplant centres, gaining expertise in advanced living-donor and ex-situ techniques.
Living donor liver transplantation involves two surgical teams operating simultaneously- one removing part of the healthy donor’s liver and the other transplanting it into the recipient.
The liver’s regenerative capacity allows both the donor’s remaining liver and the recipient’s graft to grow and regain full function.
Both donors and recipients are recovering well under the care of the hospital’s multidisciplinary intensive-care team.
CEO and Founder Dr IO Ebrahim described the achievement as a major step for the hospital and highlighted the potential of living-donor programmes to address South Africa’s shortage of donor organs.
Hospital Director Dr I Mitha and Hospital Manager Mrs Maryke Lotz also praised the medical and nursing teams.
Raslouw Private Hospital has established a new liver-transplant capability, expanding access to highly specialised transplant care in South Africa.

Addressing several women’s groups in Laudium, Pretoria, Acting Police Minister Prof Firoz Cachalia said South Africa’s gender-based violence (GBV) crisis remains one of the country’s greatest challenges, despite democracy being in place for more than 30 years.
He noted that while government has introduced key interventions, including stronger legislation and the establishment of Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) units, much more needs to be done through public education, improved policies and better resourcing.
Cachalia said the levels of violence he has witnessed while travelling across the country, particularly in the Eastern Cape, are deeply concerning.
He stressed the need to better understand the root causes of GBV and implement effective solutions, acknowledging that while some policy interventions have delivered results, others have not.
He also highlighted that many victims remain reluctant to seek help and support, underscoring the need to build greater trust and improve access to services.

Several senior police officers, including Generals, have been arrested in Pretoria on corruption related charges.
It is linked to the Medicare Tshwane District contract.
Sources say the arrested cops were part of the bid committee.
We also believe that a former senior employee of Vusi “Cat” Matlala is behind bars.
They are being detained at a police station in the capital.
All those arrested will appear in court tomorrow.

M26 and Grey Street, Erasmia, Pretoria. There are crashes at this intersection almost every week. It’s a provincial road and locals are calling on @GPDRT_ to urgently look at traffic calming measures.
The closure of Fortuna Street (gate) means that this intersection is seeing heavy traffic.

We will not tolerate the idea of ‘no go areas’ in Tshwane. We were in Laudium this afternoon where a shooting incident occurred. While we’ve established the facts about the shooting incident not being targeted at Tshwane’s health inspectors, we are concerned about incidents of violence. We want residents and businesses to feel safe in Tshwane. We were joined by TMPD and local councillors. The butchery that sparked the shooting incident has been prohibited from operating. @CityTshwane
