A private company in Tennessee wants to build enough laser uranium enrichment capacity to cover roughly 37% of what the entire US reactor fleet needs today. LIS Technologies is reviving CRISLA, a uranium-enrichment technology that goes back decades. CRISLA is not coming out of nowhere either. Cameco was involved with the technology in the past, and LIST has since recruited engineers with backgrounds at Silex/GLE and ASML. The ambition is huge: 5.5 million SWU/year of enrichment capacity at Oak Ridge for an announced $1.38 billion. But the modern CRISLA system still has a lot to prove. LIST has not yet published modern uranium assay, throughput or recovery results. That could start changing soon. The company has now received its first UF₆ for the Oak Ridge test loop, meaning CRISLA-4G can finally start generating the uranium data that matters. And uranium investors should care. If enrichment gets cheap enough, utilities can stretch each pound further and even bring old depleted uranium back into the fuel cycle. So how much of CRISLA is actually proven, and how much is still ambition? I went looking for the answer in the full article. @LaserisTech @cameconews @ASMLcompany
Cameco backed it decades ago. Former ASML laser engineers are reviving it today. LIST now wants 5.5M SWU/year at Oak Ridge. I looked into what CRISLA has actually proven, and what happens to uranium demand if it really works.

This approval comes shortly after LIST reached another major milestone by accepting its first shipment of uranium hexafluoride (UF₆) at its Test Demonstration Facility, as announced on October 8, 2026, and builds upon LIST's receipt of a key Radioactive Material License from the State of Tennessee in late 2025. The SPPP will take full effect upon the completion of a successful NRC operational readiness review.

"After decades working in laser enrichment, I know how carefully the NRC reviews these plans, so this approval means a great deal," said Christo Liebenberg, President and Co-Founder of LIS Technologies Inc. "It tells us the procedures protecting our Test Demonstration Facility's closed area are sound. The path to a facility security clearance runs through exactly this kind of demonstrated discipline, and clearing that bar is a necessary step toward taking our CRISLA technology from demonstration to commercial nuclear fuel production, as part of Project F.U.E.L. (Future Uranium Enrichment with Lasers)."

"This is an incredible achievement for the entire LIST team that enables us to channel our focus on the next step of obtaining a possessing facility security clearance for our Oak Ridge, TN state-of-the-art Test Demonstration Facility," said Jay Yu, Executive Chairman and CEO of LIS Technologies Inc. "Our goal is to make LIST the nation's leader in nuclear laser enrichment innovation, and we believe this NRC approval reflects the high quality of the team we have built as we look to support the revitalization of the United States domestic enrichment capabilities."

"Approval of our SPPP brings us one step closer to licensing a full-capacity laser-based uranium enrichment facility," said Julie Olivier, Director of Regulatory Affairs and Licensing of LIS Technologies Inc. "We are pleased with this approval and look forward to moving ahead."

LIST today announced that the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has approved LIST's Standard Practice Procedures Plan (SPPP) for its Test Demonstration Facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This approval follows LIST's initial SPPP submission on February 11, 2026. The submitted SPPP described the proposed security procedures and controls for LIST's state-of-the-art Test Demonstration Facility's "closed area" to safeguard classified matter associated with its proprietary, U.S.-based laser enrichment process, CRISLA-4G. The NRC has deemed the submitted SPPP to be in accordance with the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Part 25, 10 CFR Part 95, and 32 CFR Part 117. Furthermore, the proposed SPPP was found to provide reasonable assurance that LIST will adequately protect classified matter and sensitive information in its possession, leading to its approval.

"The momentum behind LIST continues to grow and I could not be prouder of our team, which I firmly believe is the best laser enrichment team in the world," said Jay Yu, Executive Chairman and CEO of LIS Technologies. "The receipt of this UF₆ shipment is a testament to the work that has gone on behind the scenes to bring back this vital technology and prepare it for the demands on the modern-day nuclear fuel cycle. We are committed to reinforcing U.S. energy security and positioning ourselves as a world leader in cost-effective and energy-efficient enrichment, utilizing the only U.S. origin and patented technology for laser uranium enrichment. These steps are the building blocks to establishing our flagship commercial laser-based uranium enrichment facilities on our 206-acre LIST Island. This site right at the heart of the historic K-25 zone, will serve as the foundation for our PROJECT F.U.E.L, aimed at shaping the future of U.S. laser-based uranium enrichment."

"This shipment of UF₆ is incredibly valuable to LIST as it enables us to begin licensed research, development and demonstration testing," said Christo Liebenberg, President and Co-Founder of LIS Technologies Inc. "Over the past 2 years, LIST has worked to engineer and integrate all of its proprietary laser enrichment hardware. This UF₆ feedstock will enable us to optimize our laser enrichment process in the coming months and mature the technology to a Technology Readiness Level 5 on the nine-level scale used by the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Energy to assess technology maturity."

"In just under a year following the receipt of our Radioactive Material License, we have now accepted our first shipment of UF₆," said Lloyd Jollay, Chief Operations Officer of LIS Technologies. "This is a major achievement and milestone for LIST and the entire team working to rebirth and revitalize the proprietary CRISLA technology in support of the U.S. nuclear fuel cycle. This shipment required developing a new process for less than traditional quantities of feedstock material in conjunction with our supplier."

Building on LIST's receipt of a key Radioactive Material License from the State of Tennessee in late 2025, the acceptance of this initial UF₆ shipment represents yet another major milestone for privately held LIST, which is believed to be the only U.S.-origin based developer of a patented advanced laser technology to enrich uranium. Crucially, the shipment enables LIST to engage in optimization activities including proof-of-concept testing, process optimization, materials qualification and UF₆ systems commissioning and integrated loop testing.

UF6 feedstock will support the demonstration and optimization of LIST's proprietary & patented laser enrichment technology at its Demonstration Test Loop Facility, located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on the footprint of the former K-25 gaseous diffusion plant, a cornerstone of the Manhattan Project. LIST, a proprietary developer of advanced laser technology and the only USA-origin and patented laser uranium enrichment company, today announced a major developmental milestone with the acceptance of its initial shipment of UF₆ for the demonstration and optimization of its CRISLA-4G process at its Test Demonstration Facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
