Analysis⤵️ Devin Roche gets a very favorable matchup tonight against Georgia Southern. He's been the clear RB1 for ODU in his 4th year with the program. Devin has had 80 carries through 6 games, but looking deeper into the game by game gives us more context. In games Old Dominion has gotten blown out, Roche has had lower rush attempt volume. They have three 23+ point losses, in those games he only had 9, 8 and 9 carries. That makes sense given the game script. However in the 3 other games (2 wins and a close loss), Devin has had 13, 18 and 23 carries. Specifically in the 2 most competitive games (3 pt loss vs ECU and 7 pt win vs APP St), Roche has been used the most. In those 2 games he went for 102 yards on 18 rush attempts and 101 yards on 23 rush attempts. He also garnered 39 of the 54 total RB carries in those 2 most competitive games (that's a 72.2% share). Considering this game tonight has just a 3 point spread, we should expect solid volume from Roche. Going over 100+ yards the only 2 close games is great to see. Last year when Roche got the opportunity, he performed well too. In 2025 with 15+ attempts, Roche went for 145, 137, and 100 rush yards. So far this season he's at 4.3 YPC, but last season was at 5.7 YPC. I like the chances for positive regression there given this great matchup. GA Southern allows 162.2 rush yards per game ranking 79th. Last year they allowed 227.3 ranking 133rd of 136 teams. Georgia Southern has had major struggles defending the run lately: Pettaway 151 yards (7.2 YPC), Lee-Knicely 74 yards, Sanford 120 & Makhi Hughes 70 yards all in the last 3 weeks. The similar smaller fast and twitchy RB's have done best too, Sanford at 5'9 & Pettaway at 5'10 had the best games GA Southern. Roche is a smaller and explosive back.
