I’m going to absolutely lose it I’m so serious. Mrs. Bennet is no hero in any way, shape, or form and anyone who has read Pride and Prejudice knows it. Austen specifically describes Mrs. Bennet as having a ‘weak understanding’ and an ‘illiberal mind’. She also remarks of her ‘ignorance and folly’. Indeed, the marriage between Mr. and Mrs. Bennet is a cautionary tale against marrying on the basis of superficial attraction: Mr. Bennet is described as being ‘captivated by her youth and beauty’ but ultimately having ‘no real affection’ for his wife due to their intellectual incompatibility. Anyone who thinks Mrs. Bennett is a hero doesn’t know the first thing about Pride and Prejudice. Such a notion is as great a folly as that possessed by Mrs. Bennet herself.
When one reads 'Pride and Prejudice' as a teen or a 20-something, it’s easy to get swept up in the romance. If you reread it in your mid-30s, though, you may come to the same realization Alderton did: “Mrs. Bennet’s kind of the hero of the whole f--king thing.” vanityfair.visitlink.me/6VVR…

I’m seeing it all over my timeline. People acting like historic sex offence trials were invented for Russell Brand. Years from offence to conviction: Gary Glitter 38 Ghislaine Maxwell 17–27 Rolf Harris 28 Max Clifford 30–37 Barry Bennell 27–39 Where’ve you all been?

Neidle has done a lot to highlight a grave injustice, and you should read his thread, and the article On this very specific point, IF Goldsmith is willing for the variation, AND she has the funds that Berki does not, then she could foot Ms Berki’s costs to make this right
Replying to @DanNeidle
I understand Jemima Goldsmith is willing to agree to the injunction being varied. I very much doubt Russell Brand is; so Ms Berki would need to fund an expensive application (or have an unusual amount of pro bono support) The injunction makes crowdfunding very difficult.

How depressing that it’s impossible to have anything nice anymore. Canaletto’s painting this morning by the canal in London, covered in red spray paint applied by someone devoid of talent, brains and culture.

On Thursday I wrote about the 2014 injunction Russell Brand obtained against a woman who accused him of assault. I've now obtained the final order. It's breathtaking. She had no lawyer. No trial. Yet she was silenced for life - even barred from speaking to the police. 🧵:

All juries need to be comprised of 46 million people each to ensure a fair trial. (The judge will accept a majority verdict of 38 million)

I haven't been on this site for a bit. But I haven't seen anyone share the photo the New Statesman staff staged in 2013 of Russell Brand as Christ, and themselves as his disciples. It seems to have been scrubbed from the web. It made me angry then and it makes me angry now.

Interesting to see so many Rejoiners distancing themselves from the language here, or even the man himself. But Barnier still reflects mainstream EU opinion: any deal has to be on terms that overwhelmingly favour the bloc...
No cherry-picking. No special treatment. The door is open. This time, it’s meant for coming in, not walking out. There is so much to do together to face global challenges🇪🇺🇬🇧 #Brexit

You’re locked inside a movie theater for 24 hours. You can only watch movies starring one actor the entire time. Whose filmography are you choosing?

This councillor represents the most deprived ward in Birmingham. It has one of the worst child poverty rates in the country. Just 4 in 10 people are employed. And yet he's focused on events in the Middle East - which Birmingham City Council can do absolutely nothing about.
My maiden speech! We passed what we wanted but more importantly we passed what Birmingham wanted. And silencing reform always has its own happiness 😂 YOUR councillor Raihaan Abbas

🧵As a former advertising copywriter, this is what I'd do for the John Lewis Xmas ad: lovely grandkids go to Granny's for Xmas but Granny's a bit down because Grandad died a few years ago and she misses him at Xmas. So they persuade their parents to go to JL to buy Granny gifts
