Deploying a 25’ (~8m) whip is absolutely insane, how do you even guy this thing? Every slight breeze gives a heart attack… there has to be a better way to do this😮💨 – at North Andover, MA

Cloudy, 10°C w/ 40 km/h wind = 3°C windchill. If it gets too cold, I’ll just hide in the truck bed😖 CQ POTA! – at Ipswich, MA
Yes, I do enjoy spending 2 hours on morning commute into my dream city—Boston. Or is it a nightmare?🥲 – at Malden, MA

Wind broke coil with 25’ whip and they landed on my upper lip and slashed my already bad-looking face, ouch.
We switched to end-fed long wire (73’, horizontal) afterwards. Hopefully it’ll get better later! – at Tyngsborough, MA
QRT.
Mike calling double-coil “ridiculous looking”, while I called it “whatever works” plus he literally made these coils! I’ll force him to activate 80m using this setup sooner or later😠. 73 – at Medford, MA
QRV @ US-8390, ATNO for me.
Running off of Mike’s setup today with our back to a busy road and an active railroad. 18°C with light wind. QRZ~ – at Medford, MA

52 QSO in 2h on 17/20/40m.
To mount 17’ vertical antenna on my mast, Mike and I screwed a 3/8” mirror mount onto it. Two counterpoise wires connected to the mount also acted as guy wires (14 AWG). 1st time activating using vertical for me, not bad! 73

132 QSO in 6h on 17/20/40/80m.
Sat by the beach for 30min just to take in the view. Tuning 80m on V-dipole was sheer luck. They even got grills here.. a BBQ is in order maybe🤔️ 73

QRT’d from US-4746, wasn’t any service where we set up…
Told Mike about this secret spot, we decided to try the new coil with 17’ whip. Nice day, medium wind, 15°C.
Mike got his first ever JA QSO with JH1GEX on 17m! What an activation! 73
Mike surprised me with a gift at breakfast… a tapped coil, just like his! This one has 40 turns instead of 35, and heavier gauge wire for pigtail. Mike talks a lot from time to time, but his handicrafts are impeccable😆 Really thankful to him!
P3 is Mike’s original coil. – at Westford, MA

129 QSO in 2h15m on 20/40m.
G5RV jr. worked surprisingly well despite its small (51’, compared to my 66’ and 134’ OCFD) form factor. Mike joined me for some 40m QSO. We left the park amazed🤩

50+km/h (30mph) wind and torrential rain forecasted. Hopefully the wind carries signal far, not my antenna😖 – at South Lancaster, MA

Mike’s vertical and new homemade coil worked very well, got PR and WY (both ~2700km) in one go. Not going back to 11586 unless all trees are bare: too much hassle setting up V-dipole through leaves. 73
