🐾 PAWS AND ORDER! 🚔 The charges could have been serious: unlawful roaming, failure to obey commands and disturbing the peace. But luckily for Penny the poodle, Lander University Police Lt. Jake Lucas believed in second chances! Penny, affectionately known as “Princess Penny,” is the beloved pup and radio sidekick of WCRS Radio station manager Anne Eller. After Penny escaped while chasing deer, Lt. Lucas spotted the four-legged fugitive near a busy highway and helped bring her adventure to a safe ending. No arrests. No charges. Just one happy reunion and a return to her regularly scheduled treats! 🐩💙 We're proud of Lt. Lucas for lending a helping paw to our Greenwood community! Read the full story here: bit.ly/4hHvusT

From life advice to lessons in South Carolina history and government, Vincent Sheheen brought a meaningful conversation to Lander University. The former state senator and representative and current mayor of Camden joined Dr. Matthew Malone, associate professor of political science and homeland security at Lander, to discuss public service, state government and the importance of understanding how decisions made at the state level impact our everyday lives. Sheheen also shared a special connection to Lander through his father, Fred Sheheen, who helped lead the effort for Lander to become a public college. A legacy of generosity and service at Lander University will soon be reflected in a new name on one of the campus’s largest buildings — and in new opportunities for Lander students. Lander alumna and longtime Trustee Linda Dolny-Lister is making a transformational gift to support scholarships and the University’s endowment. In recognition of her extraordinary commitment to Lander, the University's most recently constructed residence hall will officially be named Dolny Hall. Since its opening, the building has been referred to as New Hall. More than a name on a building, this gift is an investment in generations of Lander students to come. Thank you, Linda, for your enduring commitment to Lander and our students. Read the full story here: bit.ly/3TeN0eH

Some college acceptance letters arrive in the mail. Abby Prescott’s came with a whole Lander welcoming committee. 💙💛 After visiting more than a dozen colleges and searching for a university that felt like home, Abby knew there was something special about Lander. So when she became our first accepted student for Fall 2027, we wanted to make the moment just as special. With a little help from her family and weeks of keeping the secret, Lander traveled to North Augusta to deliver the good news in person. For Abby, it was a celebration of years of hard work and the start of an exciting new chapter. For us, it was a chance to welcome our newest Bearcat in a way she’ll always remember. Twenty-five years later, we remember. Today, Lander University joins our nation in honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the first responders, service members and everyday Americans whose courage and sacrifice defined the days that followed. We remember those we lost. We honor those who served. And we will never forget.
