This definition of what a brand is shares the same qualities that many successful brands have: confidence, boldness, unapologetic-ness, ability to inspire lots dialogue/commentary.
What the hell is a brand?
That is a question that, for years, has captured the imagination of my creative partner and co-founder of COLLINS, Leland Maschmeyer.
Leland declines most invitations to speak. But a thoughtful request about the future of brand-building from Web Summit in Rio de Janeiro also captured his imagination.
So off he went to Brazil.
And once there, he answered that question so damn well that he’s now been invited to answer that question everywhere else.
Which, of course, is lovely.
And yet, after 16 years of working together, when I call him with a tough questions late at night, he still always, always, always answers with the very same reply:
“How the hell did you get my phone number?”
He knows my own brand, well.
