Pink1 is another example of a protein constitutively translated only to be degraded. Upon import impairment of an individual mitochondrion Pink1 proteolysis is prevented allowing it to accumulate on that mitochondrion to recruit Parkin and initiate mitophagy.

The VPS13 proteins are thought to mediate #lipid transport between organelles & are linked to distinct neurological disorders. Baldwin, @LabYoule et al. find that, in addition to mitochondrial morphology, VPS13D is essential for peroxisome biogenesis. bit.ly/3sMSxpq

New Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences laureate Richard Youle @NIH @NINDSnews has discovered the cellular pathway that clears away damaged mitochondria - the power generators of the cell - and which, when it goes wrong, is a cause of Parkinson’s disease. breakthroughprize.org/News/6…
New commentary from @LabYoule discusses new research on two different axes (CALCOCO2-RB1CC1 & OPTN-ATG9A), and how they initiate #Parkinsons-associated PARKIN-mediated mitophagy tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.…

Today we report in @nature, in collaboration with the labs of Joseph Mougous and @VamsiMootha, the development of a new class of CRISPR-free base editors that enable precision editing of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) for the first time. drive.google.com/file/d/1xHc… 1/7

Interesting approach for imaging-based pooled CRISPR screens by Ron Vale's lab and @JswLab. 1/Identify cells with phenotype of interest by high-content imaging. 2/ Tag cells by switching on a photo-activatable FP. 3/ Sort cells by FACS.
