Beautiful utility of chaotic protein dynamics
Wow, what a powerful reminder that chaos is not a flaw in biology. This beautifully written story of the “disorderly” QCR6 protein shows how its structural unruliness actually enhances ATP production within the respiratory chain. share.google/Tfn3RQCbJFrhbwY…

Applications are now open for the Shenoy Undergraduate Research Fellowship in Neuroscience (SURFiN) program for the 2025–26 academic year. The SURFiN program aims to spark and sustain interest in neuroscience among undergraduate students who have not had access to research opportunities. The paid fellowships will run from Sept 2025 - May 2026. Deadline to apply: May 1. For more info: bit.ly/4l2YAlY

This is a disaster
Last night my brilliant friend with 20 years of expertise in Neuroscience including a decade at NIDA was fired because she was recently promoted for her outstanding performance and it triggered the probation period.
This is not making NIH more efficient, this is not making us healthier, this is not punishing the people who misled the public, this is destroying America’s talent.
Her work is instrumental for testing whether new medications to fight addiction are safe and efficacious before they are tested in humans. now that research is at risk.
She was the backbone of the lab the most senior person. So much knowledge, talent, know how, wasted, so much science destroyed for the wrong reason.
Sigh…
I am really sorry for the ~4000 staff who were fired at NIH this morning. This is a major unjustified hit to a premier research institution that weakens science in the US. My heart is breaking for you.

2p micromirror-scanned functional imaging and holographic optogenetics...in freely moving animals! Wonder where we'll be in 20 years. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… 👀
Congrats!!
Wassup y’all, my first manuscript from the @Aoto_Lab is out! Despite being discovered over 30 years ago, α-Nrxn influence on synapses remain enigmatic. Here, we investigate how different mutations in Nrx3α affects synaptic properties. Check out this study— jneurosci.org/content/44/41/…

Why are some neurons more selective than others? We report now in @Nature how calcium permeable-AMPA receptors in PV neurons make them less selective to sensory features nature.com/articles/s41586-0… Long live the geniuses behind this🧠🔍juhyun.kim @thainmueller @rhuganir
Our JoVE video article on imaging CA1 in mice engaged in odor plume navigation is out!
⭐ Behind the Scenes with Our Latest JoVE Video Article Publication! 🧠
We’re excited to give you a look at research from Fabio Simoes de Souza, Ryan Williamson, Connor McCullough, and their colleagues at the @CUSystem Anschutz Medical Campus, exploring how hippocampal CA1 neurons contribute to mice navigating odor plumes. Using advanced miniscope technology to record calcium signals, this team is uncovering new insights into how the brain processes spatial and olfactory information.
Key Finding:
“It’s possible to decode the trajectory of a mouse navigating an odor plume based on neuronal ensemble calcium signals in dorsal CA1,” the researcher shares.

Did you know that expectation of how a food should taste influences what you think it tastes like? Our expectations, drawn from previous experiences, are very important in enhancing or diminishing how we perceive the foods and beverages we eat and drink.

Hey Neurotweeps!! What are Youuuuu doing to revive the BRAIN initiative?
Thanks to @CoryMillerMarmo and @ardemp for leading the charge in opening up a dialogue about the importance of BRAIN Initiative funding, which is much needed to get all the essential neuroscience that falls thru the cracks of funding mechs at NIH (like tech, or multidiscipl), to train new generations, to be the connective tissues that makes the most of an investment initiated a decade ago to do everything from cure disease to improve AI.
Thanks to Congressman @RepScottPeters for meeting with neuroscientists in San Diego from @salkinstitute, @UCSDNeuro, and @scrippsresearch. We discussed the importance of the BRAIN Initiative and overall @NIH funding for neuroscience & biomedical research.
