While less visible or glamorous, the level of government that most affects your daily lives is at the state and local level. Grateful for the students and families who spoke at our town hall tonight on a local school issue important to them. This is how government works best. A timely reminder that @DSHB_antibodies exists: a non-profit selling validated antibodies at $50/mL of supernatant. Our validation images show what's actually on the blot. No sleuths required. dshb.biology.uiowa.edu #AntibodiesForResearch
Catalogue entries for more than 100 antibodies sold by the research services and supply company Thermo Fisher Scientific contain images that have apparently been manipulated, according to a pair of science sleuths. go.nature.com/4wZqGEE

We just sped up image analysis for a key part of hearing loss research by 50-fold. 🚀👂 Excited to announce our latest paper in PLOS Biology: "VASCilia," an open-source AI tool that revolutionizes how we visualize and analyze cochlear hair cells. The Bottleneck: For years, quantifying the 3D morphology of stereocilia bundles has been a manual, labor-intensive process—taking minutes per cell and slowing down critical research into hearing loss, aging, and noise damage. The Solution: VASCilia. Developed by Yasmin Kassim and our team at UC San Diego School of Biological Sciences, this napari plugin uses deep learning to automate the 3D segmentation and analysis of hair cells. Key Breakthroughs: ✅ Speed: Accelerates analysis by 50x compared to manual methods. ✅ Superhuman Vision: Quantifies "texture" and cellular disorganization to detect subtle defects human eyes miss (critical for tracking disease progression). ✅ 3D Precision: "Unrolls" the cochlea to predict tonotopic position and measures bundle height/intensity in full 3D. ✅ Accessible: No coding skills required! Huge congratulations to first author @Yasminkassim3  and the entire team for building a tool that we hope will serve the entire hearing research community in both industry and academia. Many thanks to National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, MATHERS FOUNDATION, and National Science Foundation (NSF) for funding support, and also our wonderful collaborators including @IndArtur and Rick Friedman, MD PhD. 📄 Read the paper: lnkd.in/g9NEpwhn 💻 Download the code: lnkd.in/gS4W7V_x
