I’m delighted to share that @ThomasLhr1, @gogulan_k, and I are launching @bindresearch, a UK-based not-for-profit research startup to deliver publicly–available tools and datasets to make intrinsically disordered proteins druggable. 🍝 💊🧲 💻 🦠

Found out that 2 of my PhD students @LS_Newton and Linran Wang went to the @UCLInfectImm PhD colloquium yesterday, and won prizes for their poster/talk without any input from me whatsoever. Very well done. Really impressive. Independence training is effective!

PhD position- come join us!
Interested in how emerging viruses overcome our frontline defence, the innate immune system? We’re looking for someone enthusiastic and motivated to join our growing team.
Please share!

So pleased to share this paper from my time @cosmochemlab @UofAlabama ☄️🌍
Hugely grateful to such supportive and knowledgeable co-authors 🙌
❔How might environments change cosmic dust - and do these tiny rocks tell the story of their surroundings? 👇
Nanoscale carbonaceous matter found in the weathering rims on micrometeorites. An exciting paper by Mark Boyd making micrometeorites a potential litmus for environmental change.

Mob handed with @Jolly_lab at @cshlmeetings retroviruses. Had a fantastic meeting. Have a great trip home everyone.
Great talk from @LS_Newton at @cshlmeetings retroviruses. Thanks to David Selwood’s lab @ucl for chemistry and everyone at the meeting for their interest in our cyclophilin targeting PROTACs

Yassss a page is turned, thesis submitted!! Can't believe these three years have gone so fast. Just a bit disappointed that I can't hold the kilograms of paper in my hands, like in the old times ;)

Had fantastic fun @GayhurstE8 this week talking to the kids about STEM and viruses. Thanks to @janesheps and @johnwalterart for artistic inspiration and @LS_Newton and @ZiqiZhou13 and the rest of the crew for help. 🦠🦠🦠🎨🎨🎨✍️✍️✍️
Fun afternoon doing outreach at @GayhurstE8 school with @towerslab. Here we are demonstrating the aerosol transmission of respiratory viruses such as SARS-CoV-2. The kids at the front blow into talcum powder and within a few minutes you can smell it from the back of the room!

Come join us for a PhD as we try to understand how telomeres protect the end of chromosomes! 🧬 We’ll train you in single-molecule biophysics using AFM and optical tweezers with the opportunity to take findings all the way from the single-molecule to in vivo phenotypes.
We have an international PhD studentship available for next year with @BoultonLab and @M_D_Newton! If you're interested in using single-molecule tools to understand how Shelterin safeguards telomere structure and stability - please get in touch! 🧬🔬🥳

Day 1 of research #fieldwork in #Italy 🇮🇹
A difficult day for Colin the dinosaur 🦖, as we searched for the K/Pg impact layer - rocks that show evidence of an impactor that wiped out the dinosaurs (except one)...
