A quick clarification: many wonder if the @LrecColing joint organization will persist after 2024. The answer is No. The current situation is meant to ensure a seamless shift for COLING from even to odd years. After Turin, COLING will be held in 2025 and #LREC in 2026. #NLProc

As promised, here is my 10-minute video presentation from #lrec2022 on how the DGS Corpus implements ethical open data practices: marc.schulder.info/en/public…

ALT Screenshot of video presentation. Title text is "How to be fair when you care: The DGS corpus as a case study of open science resources for minority languages", by Marc Schulder and Thomas Hanke, Universität Hamburg". Below the title Marc, a white blonde man in his thirties with a red beard, glasses and green t-shirt, can be seen smiling. Below him subtitles say "Hi, my name is Marc Schulder." In the right upper corner is the conference logo of LREC 2022 Marseille. Below the logo, Razaq Fakir, the sign language interpreter, can be seen signing hello in International Sign. Razaq is a man of colour, apparently in his thirties, with short dark hair, wearing a black shirt.
Ethics and open data must go hand in hand, especially when working with language minorities such as sign language communities. We wrote about how the DGS Corpus handles both FAIR and CARE principles in our @lrec2022 paper, out now: sign-lang.uni-hamburg.de/lre…
