We invited our parents and carers in to present what we had learnt and to demonstrate our moving models. It was also a great opportunity to practise our Oracy techniques when presenting. Some of us made our presentations interactive by ‘quizzing’ our audiences! 🧐🌍🪐
The Year 5 Crew worked incredibly hard, combining both their DT knowledge of pulleys and gears alongside their scientific knowledge of our solar system, to create moving solar system teaching tools! In teams, they designed, built and evaluated their models and showed resilience!
As part of ‘Safer Internet day,’ we joined in with the BBC live lesson focusing on exploring the safe and responsible use of AI. We learnt about information collection from reliable and trustworthy sources and to always double check information we receive from a ChatBot! 💻👾
As part of children’s mental health week, we started our morning writing positive messages and qualities on each others backs! The children were beaming when reading what their class mates thought of them. My favourite quote was “I’m going to look at it when/if I’m feeling sad”💛
As Scientists, we have been curious about the why the moon looks different during the month. We learnt about moon phases including key vocabulary ‘waxing, waning, gibbous and crescent.’ Using Oreos,we explained what ‘type’ of moon we had created using scientific language. 🌕🌖🌗🌘
In English, we have been looking at the typical features of a newspaper report in preparation for writing our own newspaper articles on the Greensboro sit-ins. To analyse the structure, some children brought in examples of when family members were in a newspaper! 📰
This afternoon, we joined over 750 other schools to take part in the Spaceship Earth Interactive Primary Show with the STEM hub. We learnt about satellites and how debris burns up through the atmosphere if it is put off its orbital course by slowing down! We had a great time🔭☄️
In Maths, we took part in a team challenge to create a square metre to measure the hall. As mathematicians, we estimated what it could be (based off our classroom area) and then accurately measure the base and height of the hall. It was approximately 180metres squared! ⬜️📚✏️
In Science, we were looking at the relationship between the Earth, Sun and the Moon. We spoke about the difference between ‘orbits’ and ‘rotations’ and the relationship between the three spherical bodies. 🌍🌒☀️
In our Art unit, the children were tasked with creating poem portraits through a continuous line drawing of themselves. We followed the lines to record the poem, ‘I wandered lonely as a cloud’ by William Wordsworth. Using watercolours, we created backgrounds that reflected us!🧑🎨
What a brilliant morning we have had fully immersed in our current DT project! We learnt about knife safety with the bridge and claw grip, types of coloured chopping boards to avoid cross-contamination, prepared bolognese sauce and designed our own companies and labels! 🍅🧅🥕🧄
These are beautiful Busy Bees! I love your attention to detail!
What wonderful artists we have in Busy Bees, beautiful portraits of our amazing children!
We are all unique and we are all special! @StAnnes_EHS @BPooleStAnnes @LPStAnnes 🧑🎨 👩🎨 🎨 🖌️ 🐝 👍😊
Yesterday, Year 5 completed some of their own watercolour poppy artwork. I was absolutely blown away by the beautiful pictures they produced with many children reflecting on how proud they were of their pictures! Well done Year 5 crew- what a busy and lovely week we have had!
A BIG thank you to all of the children who entered our Remembrance Art Competition from both our Hewish and West Wick sites. We were blown away by the creativity of the different pieces using a wide range of different mediums. Here are some photos to capture the beautiful pieces!
In History, we did a local study on the Blitz in Weston. We looked at primary sources such as photographs and secondary sources from Weston museum. In Geography, we answered the fieldwork question, ‘Why were bombs dropped in certain places?’ We concluded it was for it the impact!
