The Library's collections contain many important works of art, including more than 200+ Rembrandt etchings. This 1643 etching, "The Three Trees," is the largest of Rembrandt's landscape etchings & widely considered one of his greatest. Happy #ArborDay! go.loc.gov/oF4E50O1xQk

ALT While other Rembrandt landscape etchings often feature clear skies, here there is a volatile sense of shifting rain, clouds, air, and light. Composition and title emphasize three closely-grouped trees and careful looking reveals such further details as a couple fishing to the left, another couple concealed in the underbrush on the right, and a tiny artist sketching in the distance beyond them.
