COOK COUNTY LIBERTARIANS TO COMPETE IN THREE TWO-WAY BALLOT RACES
LP CANDIDATES WILL APPEAR ON THE BALLOT FOR COOK COUNTY BOARD PRESIDENT, SHERIFF, AND ASSESSOR WITH A WRITE-IN CAMPAIGN FOR CLERK
CHICAGO, October 1, 2026 - The Libertarian Party of Chicago is fielding candidates in three Cook County ballot races in the November 3, 2026, general election, where their only opponents will be Democrats. Libertarians Michael Murphy, Brad Sandefur, and Nico Tsatsoulis will appear on the Cook County ballot for Board President, Sheriff, and Assessor, respectively. Their races will also likely qualify the LP for established party status in Cook County for the 2028 election cycle.
With early voting beginning October 1, Libertarian candidates are encouraging Cook County voters to “Vote Libertarian early and often” this election cycle.
Murphy, who is challenging Toni Preckwinkle, said his campaign will continue working to make voters aware of the Libertarian choice in races without a Republican candidate. “Between now and Election Day, I’ll keep reminding voters that another candidate is running for Cook County Board President and that Libertarian candidates are on the ballot,” Murphy said.
Sandefur, challenging Tom Dart for a second time, is a longtime employee of the Cook County Sheriff's Office, including 17 years as a shift commander. “My credentials and experiences are unmatched by my opponent,” Sandefur said. “Voting Libertarian is a vote for the citizens and against the status quo politically motivated parties that currently hold the power.”
In his second Assessor race, Tsatsoulis is challenging Pat Hynes. Tsatsoulis has made property-tax reform the centerpiece of his campaign. “The Assessor race is a referendum on an unfair system, not a change in personnel,” Tsatsoulis said. “We need to cap property taxes to one percent of purchase value. Nothing will change if we simply change the Assessor without changing the broken system. I am the only candidate advocating for change.”
The Cook County Libertarian slate also includes Justin Tucker, who is running as a symbolic write-in candidate for Cook County Clerk. “This slate is historic,” Tucker said. “It’s clear that Libertarians are the major alternative to the Democrats in Cook County. The Republican Party in Cook County is now a third party.”
The public and the press are invited to the Libertarian Party of Illinois' Chicagoland Election Night Watch Party at O'Sullivan's Public House (7244 Madison St., Forest Park, IL) on November 3, 2026, at 6 PM. Murphy, Tsatsoulis, and Tucker will be in attendance after the polls close.

Official Statement from the Libertarian Party
The Libertarian Party does not condone calls for political violence or the initiation of force.
The organization in New Hampshire currently making violent extremist comments is not affiliated with the Libertarian Party and does not speak for our party.
The Libertarian National Committee disaffiliated that organization in May. The Libertarian Party Judicial Committee later unanimously rejected its appeal.
The official Libertarian Party affiliate recognized in New Hampshire is @GraniteStateLP.
The Non-Aggression Principle is a fundamental core of libertarianism. It is not optional, and it is central to what our party stands for.
All members of the Libertarian Party are required to take the Libertarian Party Membership Pledge:
“I hereby certify that I oppose the initiation of force as a means of achieving political or social goals.”
Political and social change must be pursued through peaceful, voluntary means — not violence, threats, or aggression.
This isn’t how to put its money to work in a responsible way… The way to do it is by lowering tax and REALLY lowering the budget! Instead, it’s gonna benefit the STATE!
Both sides are obsessed with each other. You know who’s obsessed with giving Illinoians more freedoms and less taxes? The Libertarian Party of Illinois!

This November, I will be filling in the bubbles for Mr Murphy, Mr Sandefur, and Mr Tsatsoulis! Will be practicing my handwriting skills writing in Mr Tucker, Mr Eimer, and Mr Laurent! All other races will be blank or NOTA!
A Illinois homeowner pays 2.7k just to make sure they keep their house protected. Then they’re paying high property taxes, just because they own it! There’s no wonder Illinois loses residents left and right!
A new study finds the average Illinois homeowner now pays more than $2,700 a year for home insurance. That's about 14% above the national average. abc7chicago.com/post/team-qu…

As we celebrate the 250th year of the founding of our great nation, let us reflect on all the great achievements we have accomplished. Some ideas we celebrate were part of the founding, some came a little later, and some took quite awhile. We have a lot to celebrate, and we also have a lot to work on to continue to make this the greatest country. Let’s all strive to make America a truly great country! Have a safe and wonderful 4th of July! -Ray Walden IV (Chair)

Tonight back in 1776 there were Patriots of a new nation trying to convince folks of state delegates to vote yes on the Declaration of Independence. There are stories of delegates walking out, or voting yes. If American, go to bed tonight thanking those Delegates for their work!
