We propose that butterfly monitoring programs can be the foundation for an effective global network of insect monitoring. To test this, we brought together an international consortium & calculated a “Global Butterfly Index” using the @LPI_Science approach!

Evidence for continued loss of UK biodiversity is clear. And yet, as our new report sets out, we have never had a better understanding of the #StateOfNature & importantly what is needed to fix it. Action. More here #StateOfNature Report bit.ly/stateofnature23 #RestoreNatureNow

Wildlife is making a comeback in Europe 🦬🦫 Many mammals were in steep decline. Some were close to extinction. But new data on animal populations over the last half-century shows that many have seen an impressive turnaround. My new, updated article: ourworldindata.org/europe-ma…

Here's what our @Ecol_Evol paper says in 4 figs: Between 1980 & 2017 we estimate abundance decline 17-19% = 560-620m birds in EU. Very large declines in a small no. of common species account for a large % of loss - birds of agriculture declining most🐦⬇️ doi.org/10.1002/ece3.8282

New research reveals an alarming 71% decline in #shark & #ray populations over the last 50 years, primarily due to #overfishing 🖊️Read more here: exeter.ac.uk/news/homepage/t… 📷Photos by @alex_mustard
