A male Splendid Fairy-wren, Malurus splendens perched on a grey stone wall. The intense blues of his plumage glow against a drab brown background. The bird has a shiny royal blue head, tail and back, with a deeper shade of blue on its belly. The primary feathers are a teal colour. The velvety black of the bird's nape and bib stand out and enhance the tiny pale blue feathers on its cheek (the ear coverts).

Sleeping Blue-bum Bees! 🐝😴 Here are the SPECTACULAR Northern Blue Banded Bees (Amegilla walkeri) roosting from my video the other day! 💙 Males group together to roost at night on a small exposed stick like this. If a predator was to walk up the branch and shake it they would all disperse! 🐝 These native bees are so special and are such important warriors everyday in pollinating and keeping our eco-systems healthy! 🌼🌳 Have you ever been lucky enough to find these bees roosting in your yard? The genus can be found Australia wide with multiple species!

I found this old photo of an 8 year old me in a school play as a professor teaching about dinosaur extinction. 40 years later here I am in my academic regalia supporting my graduating conservation biology masters student who is trying to avert bird extinction!

At the end of each tall bookcase in St John's College Library there are two little doors behind which is a list of the books on the shelves behind. There are subject headings such as: philologi, philosophi, medici, theologi recentiores, theologi scholastici, historici ecclesiastici, historici and mathematici. These haven't been updated since 1690 so someone really needs to get this sorted. A picture of Cambridge every day since 2010. (No 4905) Friday 1st September 2023. @stjohnscam
